Hey all, so as an intro, last year I picked up a 130 year old wood tug with a 1940 Atlas Imperial for some projects to turn into a technology demonstrator and charter boat as well as my home.

I’m looking for a CP prop system like I used to see laying around all the boat yards in N Europe from the old trawlers. Problem is I don’t see them at all here around the Puget Sound or in the US in general.

Anyone with connections to help me find something here or there? I’m currently swinging a 50" diameter, 38" pitch fixed prop on a 6” shaft (she had a lot more HP as a working tug) with a Paragon gear 1:1 fwd 3:2 reverse.

I want to add a 150-200kW electric motor to the shaft on a belt drive, and get rid of the Paragon gear and put in a simple In/Out coupler so I can go straight electric or hybrid together.

Any leads are appreciated, TIA. Here’s a quick link to the boat’s page with a few videos.

200-250 HP belt driven? That is one huge electric motor.
Can it be reversed? If so can it be mounted aft of the transmission?
It would be nice to retain full use of the diesel in case of electrical issues underway, too.
