Hey folks,
I recently bought my Defever 53 and am so excited. The boat is on the east coast and needs to be transported down to Miami for shipment west.
Any advice or suggestions on what it should cost/day for captain/crew
The boat will be going down intercoastal waterway from Baltimore to Miami.
I have never done this so don't know what's best for hiring the right crew, costs, expenses along the way, etc?
Any/all advice is most welcome.

Have you cruised that area yourself? I don't know what kind of time you have available but with the boat already there could be the best opportunity you'll have to do so yourself.
 
You will have nowhere near the cruising grounds on the West coast as the ones your boat will pass through on the way to Miami. Not being aboard would be a big loss.

Agreed. Horrible cruising grounds on the West Coast. Folks should really avoid it altogether for the next 30 years or so.

James, if you have the spare time and money (something that some here have in abundance), it would be a great opportunity to do the cruise to Miami yourself, even if you did it over a couple seasons.
 
I agree with all of the other reply's. If you have the time, take the boat down the ICW yourself with some company (friend, wife, son etc)I assume you know how to handle a boat (after all you bought a Defever 53) the trip can be done comfortably stopping at marinas every night all the way down. Figure in taking at least 30 days and doing from 50 to 75 miles per day. Once you get comfortable down the way, you can take 12 plus hour trips on the outside from inlet to inlet. By the time you get to Miami, you will know your new boat inside out.

Yep, nothing at all between Seattle and ALASKA!!
:facepalm:

But look on the bright side.. you will miss all the canal cruising in 6' of muddy water on the ICW if you hire a skipper
