Hello to all. New to the site. I've got the bug and the wife is on board. We are looking at boats. I've been looking alot at aft cabins but have come over to the trawler side recently. I've had smaller runabouts for 20+ years but the time has come. My number 1 on my bucket list is to take the Great Loop trip. I've been leaning towards a twin diesel trawler or aft cabin. I was always of the belief that if I was going to do this I would like to have the 2nd motor in case something goes wrong with the other one. I see alot of people have single screw vessels. If you have thoughts on the matter I would love any and all advice and opinions.
I know it's going to take us a few years to get out there but I'm counting down the days.

Thank you

Welcome to the forumn!

How many engines you need/want is a common question.

Searching for the answer, you will find many long threads. They all reach the same conclusion, having 1 or 2 engines is required:)

Do you have a different question for your first post?

Not sure where in NH you are, but 2 years ago I was where you are now.

I think the best starting point would be to go onboard some boats that do long-range cruising, and talk to the owners.

I'm in the Seacoast NH/Southern Maine area. PM me on this forum and you can stop by my marina and we can chat.

You'll have to form your own opinions on number of engines, gas vs. diesel, and what brand of anchor. My recommendation is to not make any of these a show-stopper based on anyone else's opinion.

I figured you did. Just my warped sense of humor. :) There is a world of knowledge on this forum, and a lot of friendly people here who are happy to share that knowledge with you. I cannot think of a better place to get what you are looking for.
