Hey Guys,

We are considering keeping the boat in the east central (Stuart to Cocoa) Florida area for 4 to 6 months when we come back from the Bahamas in late May.

We would like to find someplace <$500 per month, that allows occasional short stay aboards at the dock.

Any recommendations?

Harbortown Marina on Merritt Island is the safest place to leave a boat during hurricane season in CFL.

No live aboard fee, metered elec.

You are in a hurricane area , and the marina rules may require removal of the boat with a forecast of high winds.

Check first!!!

I suggest you come to a Hurricane Hole area , these are inland .

Here the wind has 100 miles if from the Atlantic and 50+ miles from the Gulf to die off.

Our area is deep canals and the protection by the land is even better .

The locals charge $200 a month , some will add $5.00 a day for live aboard.

Near the Ortona Lock on the Caloosahatchie , 50 miles in from FMY

Sure its a couple of days to get to Lake O and cross over , but the piece of mind is probably worth it.

The "Get your boat out of here" rule is common on much of the east coast, during Hurricane Season .

I kept the little DeFever at Harbourtown for six years, four hurricanes. Nice and safe. Give them a look* I think they'll even fit your under 500 requirement.

The only safer place you could find is behind my house, at my dock, but it's taken.

Fred - it would serve you well to check current FL law about moving boats as a hurricane approaches.

Mike is correct. Great location, solid hurricane hole. No requiement to move or remove. Fee is: $9.75 per ft per month.

My boat is there now. Nice facility. Next best place, up St.Lucie River,Indiatown,Fl..
