    SOLD 1988 Nordic 26

Thanks. No on the AC - we get that naturally in the PNW. :D No genset, but plenty of room below decks for one. Had I kept it, solar + a bank of LiFePO4's was next.

    SOLD 1988 Nordic 26

This is a stunning vessel. Biased for sure, but I've seen many, many classic Nordic 26's - and ours stands out from all of them. When purchased in 2015, it was already one of the better examples we'd seen. After 4+ years of upgrades, with few expenses spared - you'll really be hard pressed to...

Old speed wheel or new transducer?

Correct. If my original post wasn't clear, I also have a standalone thru hull paddle wheel. Completely separate from the B117 transducer. Unknown make/model, unknown wiring, unknown functionality. It was disconnected when I purchased the boat several years back, but if I can easily tie it in to...

Old speed wheel or new transducer?

Yup - yours was one of the reviews. Considering myself adequately warned. Last thing I would want is to yank my rock-solid B117 for something inferior. It seems in general, most water speed indicators have accuracy issues. What I can't seem to get a good handle on, is if that's reported speed...

Old speed wheel or new transducer?

Yeah...not a fan of the tech either, but if it's there and free - I'd like to have it for the same reasons Dave mentioned. Also, I'm considering installing a Floscan FloNET setup to tie into the NSS. Would be nice to be able to view water speed and accurate fuel flow side-by-side so I can...

Old speed wheel or new transducer?

I would...but I've zero idea how to wire it up, or if I even have everything necessary. Don't know if there's typically some sort of interface box for the wheel, whether it just sends NMEA 0183 - and if so, what wires do what. Looks like it, but I'm not certain. However, since posting the note...

Old speed wheel or new transducer?

Having recently completed an electronics retrofit on my Nordic 26, I've one last item that needs addressing - speed through water. GPS speed (SOG) is all I have currently. I'm guessing I have several options, including the following - perhaps more: - Replace the basic thru hull Airmar B117...

Insulation options between subfloor and floor

Thanks for all the pointers, folks. Just got off the phone with Soundown, and they suggested their vibration damping material over their MLV (Tuff-Mass) for this application. They didn't go so far as to say I'd see no benefit, but they were clear in mentioning sound insulation would be far...

Insulation options between subfloor and floor

I'll be having our carpet yanked this year, new flooring still being determined. Still vacillating between Ipe and Amtico. One of the problems that needs addressing might impact the flooring choice. Under the salon floor, above the prop shaft/rear bilge is sound insulation that is falling down...

    Wagner 700 Series Documents

While installing an autopilot and subsequently troubleshooting a steering problem, I had need to get quite familiar with the discontinued Wagner 700 Series helm pump and actuator. For the benefit of anyone else looking, I've attached a number of Wagner documents obtained here and elsewhere for...

    Wood Flooring Options

I'm not as concerned with cost as I am with value. Not to mention, it's kinda dumb to concern myself with the material choice expense when labor is probably 80% of the job. There's probably 50-60 square feet of flooring in question, so the variation in price from the cheapest vinyl to the nicest...

    Wood Flooring Options

I was all set to take our Nordic 26 in to have the carpet replaced with Amtico - but the sticker shock from a reportedly very reasonable location has me looking at alternatives. I've a local wood guy that does phenomenal work...a true artisan, but until recently had never worked on a boat. His...

Wagner 700 helm pump - return line

That sure makes sense to me, Larry. I've read similar suggestions elsewhere, albeit not for the identical helm pump. However, since posting here - somebody at Jastram did get back to me on an email I sent them over a week ago. In it - they returned my photo shown above, highlighting the UPPER...

Wagner 700 helm pump - return line

Thought this would be a simple one, but after calling Wagner (Jastram), one of their distributors (Hamilton Marine) and an unknown tech they referred me to, nobody is providing the answer. I've a Wagner 700 series helm pump - pictured here. Simple setup, two lines to the Wagner actuator. I'm...

    Wagner actuator - replace?

This is one of those projects I'm trying to keep from getting away from me. Perhaps a picture tells the whole story... Hydraulic steering on a Nordic Tug 26 - Wagner 700 series helm pump and actuator pictured above. All is working fine now as-is - turns easily, no slop, no major leaks. Tiny...

    Nordic Tug 26 - bilge pump replacement/enhancement

Apologies up front, both for length, possibly improper terminology and/or dumb questions. I've done research here and elsewhere, so hoping I'm not too far off base - but I'm suckin' up the pride, as I'm finding trawler ownership to be a tad more complex than the outboard boats and their simple...

    Adding Anchor Chain

Here's a seemingly well researched article that comes to a different conclusion. High quality c-links were tested, showing no significant weaknesses. Crappy c-links, on the other hand... C-links

Proper way to secure flexible exhaust hose?

Whoa - dunno. That's way beyond my pay grade. I simply secured it back to the same location it's been since 1988. With the exhaust exiting below the water line (just off picture, to the left), that riser seems necessary - no? And, not that something couldn't slip by them...but I've two surveys...

Proper way to secure flexible exhaust hose?

Well, after complaining about the previous tie wraps - I decided to use them again. :D This time, done better. A pair of 175 lb. tensile strength zip ties per support location, each through a Weldmount AT-5 tie-wrap holder rated at 150 lbs. Wrapped each support section in some red rubber to...

Proper way to secure flexible exhaust hose?

Agreed, that would be nice. However, I was unable to find cushion clamps that would surround a 4" diameter hose. Hence my plan to duplicate one with the copper strap and rubber...but if such an example exists off the shelf, any pointers would be welcome.

Proper way to secure flexible exhaust hose?

Thanks, all - good suggestions. Think I'll go with the copper strap, attached to Weldmount studs - but lined with rubber to fend off any wear.

Proper way to secure flexible exhaust hose?

Correct - those are what was used previously, and are all over the boat. Quite frankly, I'm not a fan of them. If they're simply holding something in place and not providing support, i.e. along a wire raceway - they're not bad. However, once stress is applied at the screw mount, they always seem...

Proper way to secure flexible exhaust hose?

Our recently acquired Nordic 26 has an inadequately secured exhaust hose, something our surveyor suggested we address. Doing so doesn't look terribly difficult, but I'm unsure the best way to go. The section that is loose is between the flange connection where the exhaust exits the rear of the...

Greetings, Just registered, although I've popped in here from time to time anonymously over the years. I don't feel like a total stranger...I recognize a few of you from the C-Brats (C-Dory site) and the TugNuts (Ranger Tugs site.) Bill here - I'm the nerd behind the curtain at both of those...
