Loss of SV Rum Truffle, Bahia del Sol bar, El Salvador

Same in QLD. It is mandatory for everybody in vessels < 4.8m to wear lifejackets when crossing a designated coastal bar, but it is encouraged for everybody to wear lifejackets no matter the size of the vessel. Some good tips here; https://www.msq.qld.gov.au/safety/crossing-a-bar

What is the best dog life jacket?

We have a bright orange Outward Hound lifejacket for a 12kg Cavoodle.

    Synthetic AIS Navaids?

We see the virtual ATONs in Australia typically on shifting sandbar entrances where they are used to show the best way across the bar, which may not correspond to the physical marks. e.g. buoys and leads.

    Do I need Windshield wipers?

I removed the wiper and apply Rain-X with very good results.

    Alternative to varnish

It has only been a month since we were back in the water, but I am very happy with my choice of Awlwood too.

    Alternative to varnish

I just went through this same decision making process and landed on Alwood. Check out this thread; https://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/s32/alwood-application-process-70225.html

New Fleming 85 hull, designed by Norman Wright, Queensland

I was surprised at how many recent commercial vessels they have built too.

New Fleming 85 hull, designed by Norman Wright, Queensland

These guys posted about buying one, but then have gone quiet; This video was 11 months ago, but I remembered watching it.

    Unique GB

Lots of cases of sailing rigs being added to "trawlers" here in Australia. Here is an example; https://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/power-boats/kevin-mackenzie-46-ketch-rigged-motor-cruiser/306264

    Painting Radome?

There were a few osmosis blisters that I had ground out, left to dry, then glassed and epoxy barrier coated. I knew about them from the pre-purchase survey. There were only about five blisters the size of a 20c piece, but given I was out of the water for a few months, thought I would get them...

Has YachtWorld.com dumbed-down its search options?

I detest all of the popups! But remember it is the internet....if something is free, then you are being used for their purposes. In this case YW is not interested in you, they are tailoring the site to their paying customers, both Brokers and advertisers, and to their own benefit. Have been...

    Painting Radome?

Here she is emerging from the shed on launch day. Still working on canvas replacement, cleaning the teak decks, filling some of the seams and polishing the stainless railings.

    Painting Radome?

Just coming back to this thread to close it out. I sanded both the radar and the TV antenna, sprayed them with a plastic primer and then three coats of white. They are back on the boat now and instead of replacing the Raymarine logos, I added the vessel name. The mast was also painted, along...

    Anodes crusty - still working?

Especially with all the rain we have had lately, the salinity in the river is probably lower than normal.

    GB - Ventilation

When in the marina and the boat is on shorepower and locked up I use a dehumidifier on a timer so it runs between 10am and 4pm daily (hottest part of the day). Not the same I know, but it does keep the interior fresh and dry.

    Sydney ferries being repowered

Yes I was surprised when they were first brought into service and were Yanmar powered. Was not what I was expecting. There have been a number of Transport NSW debacles, including the River Class ferries built in Indonesia. These were built to operate in the Parramatta River and they couldn't...

    Interesting boats

This thing is powered by 2 x 12V Detroits. Not sure if 71 or 92 Series, but is 56' long and says it cruises at 30 knots. I could only imagine the fuel burn at that speed! https://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/commercial-vessel/precision-56-sports-fisher-custom-commercial-vessel/307073

    Docking prop walk

Same as my boat. I always dock bow in, starboard side to. Not sure if it has been mentioned, but the amount of prop walk is also determined by the shaft angle. The greater the angle the more prop walk.

    Wet or Dry Exhaust

I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread, but what about heat? With the dry exhaust you have hot gases passing up through the salon, which in turn would heat the boat. I do understand a lot of these installations have blowers to move the hot air, but it is still a consideration. Well maybe...
