I have a 2007 Mainship 34T I’m going to sell, if you are interested. I wasn’t sure what your 39-43 meant so just checking to see if a 34 is of interest to you. I’m in Vancouver BC

    Looking for boat PNW

Mainship 34 Trawler Hello We are planning on selling our 2007 Mainship 34 trawler. It has a single Yanmar 340HP diesel engine, 9KW genset, watermaker and Kabola heating system. Gets very efficient fuel economy with the single diesel, has about 1,300 hrs on it. Will be asking $240K CDN when we list.

Alternator Output on start up Mainship 400

Mainship 400 alternator not charging for 4 minutes after start On my Mainship 34, 6lYA-STP engine, an intake manifold pre-heater goes on for the first 4 or 5 minutes to heat the air intake when the engine is cold to avoid smoking diesel. My alternator shows no charging until this time expires...

    Lehman starter help!

Simple fix Took a qualified auto starter repair shop 5 mins to replace the solenoid on my Lehman. Charged me $25CDN. All good. Actually took one look at the starter and said “this is not original, look at how the mounting holes have been enlarged” Should not be a problem for a qualified repair...

    Both Tachs stopped Working

Both Tachs stopped working Just checking to make sure, as on my 6lYA-STP the tach comes off a sensor on the flywheel. I had the same problem, although only a single engine, the sensor needed to be adjusted closer to the flywheel to pick up the magnetic signal. All is good now. so just in case...

    Gen Set as auxilary propulsion

Think about a hydraulic drive I’ve seen a “get home” arrangement using a hydraulic PTO off the gen set, with a fan belt around the prop shaft that can be engaged when needed. Requires two hydraulic drives, one the gen set powers, and one that drives the fan belt arrangement on the prop shaft.

    Overhead Salon and Bathroom Lights

On my 2007 Mainship 34, I just pulled the lights downward. They have two spring clips that hold them into the holes in the headliner. Then you can put LED bulbs in place of the hot halogen bulbs they used. I replaced all the halogen bulbs throughout the boat with LED. good luck

    Mainship Pilot windshield mod

Here’s how you get at the screws Carefully pull out the black gasket that holds the window into the frame. It will pull out fairly easily, although you may need a bit of lube on it. Just pull it out far enough up the glass to access the screws. You can put a small wrench in there once the...

MS 390 - Add fresh water flush to raw water intake

Be careful to leave your raw water through hull open when you flush with fresh water, as the hose will not provide enough water to keep the engine cool. You will get mostly fresh and this will help flush salt water out of your cooling system and keep it lower maintenance. Although I haven’t done...

    Mainship Pilot windshield mod

I would be interested in a set. The ones I have are terribly corroded. I’ve checked with the manufacturers and they have only one left of the wrong side for my requirements. I have a 2007 Mainship Trawler, but I suspect they are identical windows. Please let us know when you get pricing as i...

    eBikes - thoughts?

We bought folding Volt bikes (voltbike.com) urban step-thru. They store nicely in our cockpit, and we used them all over the Gulf Islands (we are in the Pacific Northwest) this past summer. Take the battery out (just slides out) and they are 45lbs. Had so much fun and saw much more scenery than...

Am I at the right cruising speed

Mainship 34T with 6lypa cruising speed For what its worth, I typically cruise my 2007 Mainship 34 at 1800 to conserve fuel. That will get me anywhere between 7 - 8 knots which is fine with me, and I get excellent fuel economy. Every so often I take it up to full throttle for about 15 minutes to...

Looking for 35-40 ft tug or trawler

You’re right, it has an island berth in a single stateroom with a pull-out couch in the salon. Good for 2-3 nights with friendly guests, then what’s your hurry to get home?

Looking for 35-40 ft tug or trawler

Looking for trawler Hello Tedku Just on the off chance you may be interested, I have a 2007 Mainship 34. Single engine diesel, bow and stern thrusters. Perfect for a couple in their ‘70’s to handle. In excellent condition, lying Vancouver. Reply to me if you are interested and I can give you...

    Prop Walk

Frustrating prop walk My simple recommendation is to rely on your stern thruster. That’s why they equipped the Mainship with bow and stern thrusters, to make it easier to dock them. I never resist using them, but I do resist using them for more than 5 seconds at a time, giving them a chance to...

    Prop Walk

Prop Walk on Mainship 34 I have a 2007 Mainship 34 and have never noticed any prop walk. Mine has front and rear thrusters which operate quite differently, with the rear of the boat moving faster than the bow as the stern is flatter and seems to slide over easier. Good luck learning how to...

    No GPS Garmin 4212

No GPS on Garmin 4210 Hello I don’t know how similar they are, but I had the same problem on my GPSMAP 3210. Turned out to be a bad GPS antenna. When I replaced it, everything worked fine. I purchased at GPS City, which is a Canadian site. You may be able to find elsewhere, but Garmin may not...

    Green corrosion

Muriatic Acid available from your local drug store. You can use a Q tip or small cotton swab to dab the area. Works great. Just don’t go overboard with it.

    Fender Covers

I had a surveyor tell me not to use fender covers for the following reason: inevitably they get dangled in the water or pick up sea life with small shells that then break when rubbing against the boat or the dock. So unless they are regularly cleaned those fine shell fragments act like sandpaper...

Can I assume it is the wire?

Hello Had a similar problem when running with inverter on. The Chart Plotter has a low voltage shut off to protect the electronics, likely around 11.5 volts. When you use your Davit and any other high voltage draw, your batteries are going to drop in overall voltage fairly quickly which will...

    "Green" Belts

Belt dust on alternator belt I had this problem on an older motor with an aftermarket higher amp alternator. Just burned through the regular belts as the horsepower needed to drive the alternator caused the belt to wear out. One solution is to put a wider pulley and belt system on. Or just...

    Check those shore power connections!

Smart plugs not so smart Don’t assume Smart Plugs will prevent an overheated connection. I could show you a photo of my melted smart plug which appeared to have a loose connection on the inside (perhaps one of the screws became loosened) and it pretty much melted everything. Thank goodness my...

Which is the best dinghy ?

Dingy to use on Mainship Pilot I have a Mainship 34 trawler with a Portland Pudgy on the transom. Works great, is under 100 lbs. I use a small pulley system attached to the upper deck to raise and lower it. And you can still open the transom door while it is attached.

    fly bridge opinions

A flybridge is an absolute must in my view. My last two boats had flybridge with lower helms. On the current boat I’ve only used the lower helm once, just to see if it was easier to sight when docking. With all the debris in the PNW waters from logging and floods, why wouldn’t you want a better...
