    Wet exhaust elbow

I have a Perkins Range 4 (T6-3544) where the exhaust elbow water feed hose leaked (it was covered with a heat wrap so never seen) ran down the elbow and destroyed the V band flange to the point that a new flange cannot be welded on to replace it. TAD sells a new replacement for $1350. Not too...

    Perkins T6354

I have 2 of the later T6354-4 (Range 4) engines and they themselves are great. Very strong and reliable. It's the bolt on accessories, like the Manicooler (multicooler) for the turbo, trans, engine oil cooler, built into one unit. These are very expensive and hard to find.

    Replacing Window Glass

Wish I could help, but my 1985 38" GoldenStar does not have exterior window trim. A look through the Taiwanese builders page should find something, as I'm pretty sure I have read a few posts over the years. Other Taiwanese built boats use the same basic window and trim style.

For Sale: What's this Boat Worth??

A broker once told me regarding a boat I was interested in: It may be over priced at $15K or under priced at $95K. Not trying to be funny, but it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. If well equipped, structurally and mechanically sound, and passes a full survey, I'm thinking 69K...

    Dodged a bullet last week!

Had a similar situation here last week. An older Mainship express cruiser 2 slips from mine had both carbs replaced with new fuel pumps and filters. The new owner came over one night as he said it smelled like gas through out the boat. He handed me a small flashlight and I went into the engine...

    Shopping for a dinghy

I have a 12 foot Aluminum Valco U12 which is pretty stable, and weighs only 125 pounds, less the outboard. Powered by a 5HP Tohatsu 2 stroke and moves pretty well and seats 5 comfortably.

    Digital TV antennas

I use an externally mounted one in the Los Angeles area on my boat, but do not recall the name brand and it was installed 3.5 years ago and is used daily. It was supposed to have a 60 mile reception range and actually works very well. I receive over 65 channels, although many are Spanish/Korean...

For Sale: Grand Banks Alaskan 49

OK, I'm in love. Too bad my marina recently decided to no longer accept any wooden boats. Beautiful boat!

angus99, Yes, that would have been difficult! I just removed the assembly and manually opened and closed the door!

I believe I spoke to Gail. I was gong to locate a push spring locally, but I figured the original lasted 30 years, so why not wait a short time and get a factory part.

    Perko inc

Just a quick shoutout to Perko! I called them just before Christmas as the "push" spring inside my #0960 latch broke and I could not use the latch to open /close the door to the head. I wanted to buy the spring, but they simply took my shipping information and sent me a new spring at no cost...

Living on our "new" boat in a boatyard

Congratulations! One thing I think you both will find interesting. I did! When finally in the water, motoring along, your boat suddenly seems so small!

What do you pay for hull cleaning?

In SoCal for my 38' Trawler, I pay $45.00 per monthly cleaning and every year or so, he includes zinc replacement labor at no charge with a decent price for them, as needed.

    Perkins Holset H1B

Fantastic! I appreciate all the information. Very much. TAD had no idea, I did try Cummins, but they do not use the same stud system the old Holset uses. They simply clamp on. I'm going to look for the OEM type studs first. Again, thank you all!

    Perkins Holset H1B

I can't believe I have to ask, but no one seems to know. I called TAD and they did not know or could help me. I need 4 new exhaust studs to attach my exhaust elbow onto my Holset turbo and cannot determine the thread size or type. Anyone happen to know? Very much appreciate any help one can...

    Perkins Range 4-200

Perkins Range 4-200 owners who have had to remove a turbo for repair/overhaul: Is it necessary to drain the turbo after the cooling system has been drained? I cannot remove the drain or even the fill, for that matter.
  19. G

    Perkins Range 4-200

Nope, just coming off and installing another good (same PN) unit from another boat. If I were adapting a larger displacement turbo, or smaller, or removing the turbos altogether, then yes, it would require fuel changes, probably just injectors. As is, just an R&R. Thanks.

    Perkins Range 4-200

Never mind, I misread a partial manual a friend sent. There IS no coolant drain on the turbo. Must drain the coolant.

    Perkins Range 4-200

Time to pull the turbo off my 1985 Perkins Range 4, 200. Question please. Will pulling the turbo coolant drain plug drain enough coolant to allow removal, or, do I need to drain the entire cooling system? Thank you!

    Perkins Holset Turbo's

Question about the Cummins turbo's. They seem to use a different exhaust outlet design than the bolt-on elbow used on the Holset. How do you resolve this? My turbo outlets have a bolt on 90 degree upwards bend that has a V-band clamp to attach to the wet elbow's. Looking at the manual for...

    Perkins Holset Turbo's

Cool. Thank you Joe. My engine labels say Range 4-200, so they must be rated at 200HP. Yes, my turbo's are coolant and oil fed. So, if I can find one with these features, it sounds like it may be an easy replacement. Thank you again.

    Perkins Holset Turbo's

Thanks for the reply. I was under the impression the Perkins Range 4 (6 cylinder) was the engine to replace the earlier T6-354's, so I wrote "later". My engines are of 1985 vintage. I believe I myself physically damaged a turbo and am looking for a replacement. I'm not sure as of yet though, so...

    Perkins Holset Turbo's

I came across an old Marine Perkins manual. The H2A was used on the 220 HP engines and had 12 to 15 psi of boost. The H1B and H2C used on the others and had 11-14 psi boost. So, was the Range 4 rated at 220 HP or less?
