    Morse/Teleflex DS Binding

imo this describes the "normal" arrangement. as all the cables and handles are moving regardless of which control being used to operate them the effort shouldn't change from one helm station to the other. one thing for op to check, there is a friction adjustment within the handles to help them...

    Engine Parameter Logging

keeping a log is absolutely standard real world marine engineering practice, be it with paper and pencil or electronic means. as things degrade system parameters change slowly over time, you probably wont notice the changes week by week without a written record. marking or rotating the gauges as...

    Cummins Intercooler

If you have enough space and don't care about sticking with OEM equpt and arrangement then Bowman make suitable heat exchangers, revised pipework needs some careful thought and skill to make it look right.

Weaver Dinghy Davit - options for pulling dinghy up on edge and tying off…??

Why not simply pull the dinghy up and lash the upper side to the handrail? Are you concerned the handrail isn't strong enough? If yes then the socket fittings you are querying would make good places to insert a lashing point if you rotated them 180 deg so the open side is forward. You could then...

Replace AGM with LiFePo4 Lithium Ion batteries

In electric cars size / weight / output is an important factor, I can see why they need to use Li batteries. This is not the case on a boat, certainly not on a trawler. Why swop simple cheap lead acid technology for something that needs a built in management system which (in case you dont...

    Vbirth heat no worky

I doubt this is a reversing valve problem, the simple control system wouldn't know about that, the compressor would start with the fan and blow cold if the reversing valve was not working. I think you just have a cooling unit

    Vbirth heat no worky

Did you try it on cooling just now? and the compressor and fan do what they are supposed to on "cool" right? if yes you know the compressor is working. I know you said AC works great but maybe that was some time ago. Next a really simple thing you must have tried already?? but you don't mention...

A/C compressor unit in Flybridge bonnet over salon?

I have similar installation on my boat with a single pump serving all 3 a/c units, (one of which is as you intend to instal, others are in lower hull).Needs a valve on the outlet from the two lower units otherwise the water takes the easy route and none goes to the upper unit, easy to throttle...

    Xantrex out...Victron in

Then (like I said) you will have a happy life with your new box. My point really was, unless you are an expert on the internals, how do you judge that the Victron box is better than the Xantrex box.

    Xantrex out...Victron in

Xantrex make expensive yellow boxes Victron make expensive blue boxes Unless you are an expert on what is inside those boxes it is hard to really know much more than that. Maybe you just ask yourself what you are going to do when it stops working, if you are happy with the answer then you will...

    Yanmar 6LY3-ETP 480hp Turbo Rebuild

first check air filters are clean and the play on shaft end that is exposed with filter off, it should spin freely and nothing should be scraping etc. the clearance and end float is small, value differs from engine to engine, i can't tell you what it should be on yours but it is generally...

Cummings 10 amp circuit breaker tripping with new alternator

original cummins installation the alternator plugs in. sounds like you have replaced the plug (and maybe some of the original loom) with direct wiring. in itself that is a good thing to do, but it is possible you have "lost" the diode contained in the engine wiring loom in this process. this...

3208 Cat Blow back through intake

Crankcase blow by on no load doesn't tell you much....can only be judged under loaded condition. Are you sure there isn't a crankcase vent led to the turbo intake and this is crankcase blow by you are seeing?? You might be getting a bargain.... but I would price in a full overhaul of both...

3208 Cat Blow back through intake

So we can assume the engines hadn't ran meaningfully for 10 yrs or so?? Were you the one to start them or had someone else got them going before your visit? Regardless, any damage that might result from starting after standing that long has now been done. No corrosion in engine room is a good...

    Pushing the red button

With electrically remote controlled "mechanical" engines, a solenoid puts fuel pump to zero fuel delivery position. Exactly same operation as pulling the stop cable on earlier versions. With "electronic" engines, stop command does the same thing, ecm uses injector control to achieve it.

Prop Guard - FSI ; Propeller Coating

Anyone using a boat frequently ( = commercial fisherman) doesnt need anything to stop barnacle fouling on props. Engine running very rough QSB 5.9L

If same layout as last one I worked on you have been working around the ecm and fuel pump. Lots of connections around there. DONT START PULLING THEM APART. You are very likely to put another fault on making trouble shooting much more difficult. If its working ok now strongly advise you leave...

    What is This Plug?

"Dipole" or nothing amounts to the same thing. All I am suggesting is that he determines whether there is a device on the other end of the wire.

    Engine question

3 things are in play with any diesel. Speed (rpm), load and fuel. The engine fuel pump delivers a measured qty of fuel which engine burns to produce power...if the load drops with constant fuel supplied the speed rises and vice versa. If the fuel is reduced with constant load then the speed will...
