For Sale (maybe): 2002 Pilot 34

I may have found my "next" boat and wondering if anyone here has any interest in my 2002 Pilot 34? Very good condition with a hardtop. Based on what I am seeing on the market, seems like $110K would be a fair asking price.

    Time for a galvanic isolator??

See attached photo. These zincs were replaced about 5 weeks ago. My mechanic sent the pic. I'm not sure where the really bad one was. Should I install a galvanic isolator?

    Re-caulking hardtop and more

My 2002 Mainship Pilot needs to be recaulked, mostly the joints around the hardtop. I don't think the caulk is failing, but it is moldy looking and probably due anyhow. Questions: 1) I saw a video of a Sonicrafter (oscillating tool) being used to remove caulk in a bathtub. Do you think that...

    Head case (Vacuflush)

[Warning: Not for the squeamish. Though you may get a chuckle] I have a vacuflush system on my Pilot 34. I added a new tank gauge last year and due to replacing batteries, had to recalibrate it at Empty and Full. Soooo... it was probably about 3/4 full of waste and I figured I'd just pour a...

    Yanmar 6LYA-STP 370HP Alternator replacement

I think I need to replace my alternator on my 2002 Pilot 34. The existing alternator is Hitachi #129772-77200, 12v 55amps. I did some quick searches and I'm not seeing the 6LYA on some of the cross-reference charts and wondering if perhaps it is not the original alternator and maybe the PO...

    Vent line cap

On my '02 Pilot... the vent cap for the fuel line was sheared off. See attached photo plus what I bought from Attwood. There is NO way to access the back of it from the inside. What is on the inside? I can't imagine that I can unscrew the broken part from the outside and just screw in the new...

    I have a nice bottom

Two years ago, I stripped my bottom, put on 3 coats of barrier coat and 2 coats of Pettit Hydrocoat. I just hauled out and the bottom is still really nice. The boatyard guy said he'd just put her back for another year. But I was hoping to not haul for another 2 years. I'm thinking of just...

    Refurb a swim ladder??

I have some wear on my swim ladder. I'm not sure what sort of coating is on it. But wondering if I could somewhat easily remove the coating and have it powder coated. Thoughts??

    Yanmar 370HP - 1000 Hour Service

Greetings, In December of 2015, I had 985 hours on my Yanmar 370HP and brought it to a very reputable (Yanmar authorized) marina (Haven Harbour) in MD. I've attached the completed work order below. Cost about $3300. I didn't see anything in there about the heat exchangers and was told they...

    Removing wiper motor

I thought replacing the motor on my port windshield wiper would be a fairly simple job. Think again. I've learned that I need to remove the wiper arm off of the motor. I bought an automotive "wiper arm puller" tool. But alas, the hardtop only gives me a couple of inches to work with and I...

    Morse shifter

Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all Veterans! So my starter switch is intermittently not working until I play with the shifter a bit, going to gear, then neutral. It is a Morse shifter. Thinking it is the safety switch? Teleflex Morse Marine Boat Shifter Control Neutral Safety Switch Tel...

New grab rails on Pilot 34 hardtop

Thought I'd share pics of the new grab rails. The previous owner had installed flimsy ones using bimini hardware. Much better now!

    New holding tank gauge

My 2002 Pilot 34 has, for lack of a better term, a "binary" holding tank gauge. The red light comes on when it is full! Has anyone installed a more sophisticated gauge? I understand there are ones that can be installed on the exterior of the tank? I'm not sure it is even humanly possible to...

    Propane grill on a Pilot

I'm jonesing for a propane grill on my Pilot. But where to store it? I miss the cavernous lockers on my sailboat. Any suggestions for make/model and where you keep and mount it?

    Yanmar - Mobil 1 Synthetic

I'm the new owner of a Mainship with Yanmar 6LYA-STP, 370HP. The owner's manual says I should use 15W-40 weight oil. The previous owner used 15W-50 Mobil 1 synthetic, which does not come in a 40 weight. Stick with the 50?

    Domestic Plumbing - 5/8" fittings?

I'm a bit of a plumbing neophyte. I'm trying to add a by-pass to my water heater. It has plastic tubing with some odd fittings which use barbed ends with threaded nuts. I figure I would rip it all out and replace it with those easy to use "quick connect" fittings. Well... turns out my hose...

    Yanmar 6LYA-STP Winterization

Rookie question - The manual for my 370HP Yanmar shows how to drain the raw water side of my engine. As an alternative, can't I just suck antifreeze through the intake line (with the engine hot and T-stat open) until I get antifreeze coming out the exhaust?? Thanks for any guidance.

    C-Map cards

Rookie question - I just bought a boat from Chicago. Sold the C-Map card for the Lake Michigan on eBay. Bought another on eBay and now realize the one I bought is a different shape. They were both "NT+", but the original had more of a rectangular shape and this one is more square with a metal...

    Pilot 34 Newbie

Greetings, Well after a few false starts, I finally found a P34 that had all of the bells and whistles I was looking for. Had to truck her from Chicago to MD, but it was worth it. Today is the first day of winter, but the spring can't come quickly enough! I'm sure I will have many questions...

    Suggestions for labeling fittings?

I'm a former sailboat guy and just bought a Mainship Pilot 34. Needless to say, there are many more thru-hull fittings and moving parts than my previous boat. I'd like to go through it and put some sort of labels or tags on everything. I'm thinking like a piece of vinyl with a sharpie and a...

    Steel Cradle - worth?

Good day, I'm pretty close to closing a deal on a Mainship Pilot 34. It has a custom steel cradle included. Those are not all that popular in MD and I'm curious what it is worth, in case I can sell it back to the marina or others? Thoughts?

    Dumb question from the rookie

Having been a sailor for many years, I'm inexperienced with having so many batteries and "power" toys. I'm getting my P30 on Monday. No genset. Question: Will things like the AC, microwave, stove, etc. work while under power or does that require shore power or genset?
