    Georgian Bay Canada

We finally got away and cruised up from Midland Ontario at the South end of Georgian Bay traveling to Killarney at the North end of Georgian Bay about 120nm as the crow flies or about 300nm if you followed us. We met many interesting people cruising these same waters and most were from the...

Jabsco Hand Pump Hard Down Stroke

We had a similar problem with the downstroke on our Raritan. I traced it down to a bottle cap lodged in the 90 deg elbow from the sani line into the top of the tank. Now who would have flushed a perfectly sized plastic bottle cap down there?

    Charging mystery finally solved

We have owned our boat since Aug of 2013 and enjoyed many day trips with only one night on the hook. The po told me the charging system on our trawler was designed to recharge the entire double house bank (parallel setup) plus the 8D starting battery while underway without assistance from shore...

Seacocks - When to Close Them

I couldn't stand the fact that my hoses were pretty much all 35 years old. I finally broke down and had them all replaced with top of the line hose and ss clamps. Peace of mind is priceless!

Gavin Summerhill Hello again to Peter B. Our boat is up on shore now all shrinkwrapped and secure. We had a heck of a storm come through last weekend -you likely heard of all the damage etc. in the States, but we luckily only had 100 kilometer winds and blowing snow to deal with. How are things...

Blue Ford 335 cu in inline 6 diesel

Gavin Summerhill We purchased it from the original owner who had it built by Gavin Summerhill Co. in Clearwater Florida in 1979. The original owner told us it is a one-of-a-kind. He had it built there and finished the inside in Canada. He and his wife toured all over in it for 33 years. The...

I have recently purchased a Gavin Summerhill 29 with this 110 hp engine and since I have not found any others like it in the forums or online, I am wondering if there is anyone out there that is familiar with it. It is naturally aspirated and runs smooth as glass, so I have no complaints. I...

Anytime towards the end of October it can start to get frosty here. It's good to know she is all tucked away snug come the winter storms. They relaunch after the ice goes out in April. That gives us lots of time to plan for the next season.

Gavin Summerhill Still trying to learn all we can but admit we have taken the time to have a cup of tea on the deck watching the sun go down on occasion! A couple of more weekends and conversation will turn to hauling out, winterizing, boat shows in January then getting ready for our first...
