    Engine Choices

Where will you be boating? We have had Volvo in FL and they were just not cooled well enough fot our water temps. Cummins except 555. Especially the newer ones. Beware parts availability and cost on both Yanmar and especially Volvo. Even here in Ft Laud boating service capital of the world LOL

    Boat Tracking real time

We’ve had an inReach for 4 years. Very reliable before garmin, still pretty darn good. Had a few instances of dropped tracking going N/S intacoastal, always seemed to be relatively near nuclear plants. AIS coverage in Bahamas is NOT good. Get an inReach, you won’t regret it

    Fort Lauderdale no pumpout?

City of Fort Lauderdale has a slip/space on the south side of the river near the tunnel where anyone can use.the pump out or get Anchor petroleum to bring the fuel truck (not sure of the minimum). Call the Dockmaster to confirm the space is clear/schedule your stop. They will even (usually)...

Ditto the food refuse over the side and getting rid of all boxes before cruising. We mounted a can crusher for soda/beer cans and hand collapse individual water bottles.

Florida trip planning help for a west coast guy?

Northeaster winds start about mid November. Sailboaters spend winter in Exuma or Abaco. Not so much us powerboaters and you really have to wait and pick your weather window. We’re a 52’ Hatteras outfitted for long distance on hook cruising and we don’t do Bahamas (after 40 years in SoFL) in...

Hatteras one of the best built production boar. Long range cruiser has few draw backs. We own a 52’ CPMY that we use as a trawler. Cruise 7-8 knots 2 gal per hour, repowered with Cummins qsm11’s. Super er

Galley maid water sys pump not self priming

How to re prime system withou dockside water pressure? Do you need a pump to prime the galleymaid? Tried sucking on the bolt (removed) with a wet vac. Should the faucet be open when sucking? Get a little water but the pump won't kick off. Planning to live aboard and do the Caribbean loop and...
