    Best Davits for Lowering Inflatables

I'm looking for the best Davits on the market today for replacing my 12-yo Brower Davit. Or, an alternate solution for launching and stowing my inflatable. It has to be an easy launch and stow mechanism. My Brower davit's boom works fine but the reel does not. The reel's motor or gearbox may be...

Hydraulic Davit - hose replacement problem

Raising the arm May work for the 1600 but not the 800. The only way to get to the fittings I see involves removing bolts securing the hydraulic ram and spreading it open.

Hydraulic Davit - hose replacement problem

MV Traveler - Yes, I did try that with my 800 lb unit but I'll try it one more time. It doesn't make sense to me for a design that does not provide readily access to the hose connections nor does it make sense to me for a unit that can easily lift up and off. Not on a boat with up and down...

Hydraulic Davit - hose replacement problem

To: Sea Level Today I had 2 very strong young guys try to lift the davit arm and it was a no go. I have an 800 lb Brower Davit. Can you send me any technical information on this davit that shows how to remove it? Mine does not just lift off.

Hydraulic Davit - hose replacement problem

Sea Level - Thanks so much. I am exploring both my options. Your info was extremely helpful. To have a boat yard replace all 4 hoses by lifting off, laying the davit on its side, etc as you describe, can you give me a rough estimate of what the cost would be? A really rough number only for labor...

Hydraulic Davit - hose replacement problem

Knot Yet - you have been so helpful and I thank you much! One thing left - the McMaster page shows the smallest fitting at 5/8" O.D. and my SS braided wrapped hose is only 5/16" O.D. Does McMaster or others make screw on fittings for that size?

Hydraulic Davit - hose replacement problem

My 800 lb unit has Bower Davit in the title of the Instruction manual. It is an aluminum arm that rotates around a base. A hydraulic cylinder raises and lowers the arm and hydraulics operate a reel that reels a line in and out. There are 4 5/16" dia SS braided hydraulic lines between the power...

Hydraulic Davit - hose replacement problem

Thanks, have you ever done this and had it work with SS jacketed hydraulic hoses?

Hydraulic Davit - hose replacement problem

I have a Bower Systems (no longer in business) 800# hydraulic davit 2010 with a leaking hydraulic hose. It's a wire braided hose 5/16" O.D. Obviously the hose needs to be replaced. The hydraulic unit in the engine room is easily accessed for disconnecting the hose at that end. The problem is...

    Gas verse Diesel Engines

Gas versus Diesel #1 reason Flammability- Diesel fuel has a flashpoint between 52 and 96 °C (126 and 205 °F). In comparison, gasoline is a flammable liquid with a flashpoint of -40°C (-40°F). It gives enough vapor to create a burnable mixture in the air or the bottom of a boat. For lower...

    Refrigerator/Freezer Replacement on GB 42

Grunert Refrigeration In my 84 GB I replaced my old Grunert unit with two separate Frig-a-boat systems. It was a DIY project and not so difficult. I kept my two boxes and removed old plates a compressor/condenser. I put my new 12 v refrigerator compressor/condenser (size of a loaf of bread) in...

    Water in the Bilge twice

Leaky Water tanks Path forward depends upon the valving you have on the supply side of your water system. I assume your water leak is not on the pressure side otherwise your supply pump would be running all the time. If you are positive the leak is on the low pressure supply side, you need...

    Maintenance/Ships Log?

I have a '84 GB trawler I've owned for 9 years. I enter all maintenance performed in the maintenance log I inherited with the boat. There are still plenty of pages left. The log is for "what was done and when". It also includes upgrades. For the essential maintenance items "what to do and when"...

    Electric Boats

I agree with your analogy - never underestimate our ability to bring technology to the next level. It's happened so many times before. Just look at the this James Webb Space telescope now orbiting around the sun and what it has been able to do. It's a wow! Seems to me is all we need is a...

    Classic Freezer - upgrade

Classic Freezer Thanks. That certainly makes sense. I’d have to remount the evap plating with standoffs but that can be done. I was thinking of a similar approach using SS sheets to make a smaller box but the metal working would be a much greater chore.

    Classic Freezer - upgrade

I recently upgraded my refrigeration systems on my '84 GB Classic with Frigaboat compressors and evaporators. The refrigerator works well and has a decent cycle time with a 38 degF setpoint. The freezer box cycles too often (every 10 mins off to on) for my liking. I have the SP at 14 degF and...

    Fresh water pump problem

I'd look under the sink to see if a previous owner installed a separate water filter just for the sink faucet. If so, it's probably clogged. mine has one from previous owner.

    Princess 3-Burner Replacement

I replaced mine with a Force 10 about a year ago. Only minor adjustment required on cabinetry. Be aware the units will not fit out/in the doors. You have to go out/in the window.
