    1990 45' Californian

I don't think your Carver Californian is the same as the Californian 45 that they are looking at.

    Refit: East vs West coast?

If you are anywhere in the New Bern, NC area, Hatteras has plenty of laid off craftsmen who work at reasonable prices. I had work done aboard our sailboat when we were there and they were great.

    Do deals like this happen?

The seller's broker is also a dealer. My thought was to get the dealer involved. He gets a commission on the sale of the Tolly, takes my boat in trade and then sells it at a profit that is in excess of what he gave me in cash. I'm not expecting to get away whole here. Just don't want to give...

    Do deals like this happen?

We currently have our sailboat for sale. We have found a Tollycraft that we are really interested in but can't buy until our boat sells. Here is the situation. Our boat is listed for $30K more than the Tolly. Lets assume that neither of us will get what we are listed at. Both boats are...

How frequently do you drink when cruising...

I used to have Champagne tastes but I find I have more in common with those beer and good whiskey drinkers. I'll leave the Champagne to those with the yachtie hats, crests on their jackets and long pants. I'm the guy with the $10 T-shirt, ragged shorts and $100 deck shoes walking around with a...

For Sale: 1992 Grand Banks 32 For Sale - See Video

Not sure what that would be in today's dollars, but, it is way more than a 32' boat is worth. I'm guessing that if they were to build one today it would be in the $450-500K range which would put it out of reach for the average buyer.

Something is just basically wrong with this whole event. I saw the video of the guy and he was in just too good a shape to have gone through what he said he did.

Moving - Never. At anchor - 2, 3 max (protected), Dock - Well, there are times when I took way many turns on the winch.

    Boat Search 101

I just read this post. Having cruised for four plus years full time, your ininerary sound more exhausting than pleasurable. We spend six months in the Chesapeake alone (over two trips) and still feel that we can spend another year there before we see most of it. Like you said, your idea of a...

    Heading South Pt. II

Just make sure that they don't have their feet on the bottom. Stay in deep enough water. They will tear the hell out of your dink if they have any traction.

Are You Mocked at the Dock?

Milton, confused? That old salt might have gotten your boat name wrong but he has probably forgot more about seamanship that the rest of us know collectively. Is he still feeding all those cats at his house??

    Recommend Fuel Efficient Trawler

There is no way you are going to go to the headwaters of the Mississippi and do the "Loop" backwards. About as far north as you can go is St. Anthony Falls in Minneapolis and then it is all down river from there. Just a little geography note. I forgot to mention that the "headwaters" of the...

    cool trawler I saw

I love tugs. I worked for Red Stack when I was a teenager. Made more money in three months than most guys made in a year. Traveled up and down the coast from San Francisco to as far as Anchorage.

    Breaking News

With the announcement this morning about normalizing relationships with Cuba, wonder how long it will be before we can freely travel there. Might be a big bonus to cruisers. Betting American business can hardly wait to get their hands on Cuba.

    Bottom of Mattress Wet!

We sold the Froli system for a couple of years before we went cruising. It's the best. The only place you can get it now is from Nickle Atlantic. The woman you deal with is a little cranky but you will get an awesome product.

    Zinc Line Cutters

We have used the Shaft Shark for years. We don't go looking for crab pots on the Chesapeake but when they can't be avoided, the Shaft Shark has never failed us. When we haul the boat, we put a sign on the shaft that warns people to stay away from the blade. Surprising how many people have cut...
