    Wash and Wax

After waxing once a year, I use permanon on the boat. In my experience it works very well. All I need to do to to clean off most dirt is to rinse the boat. It even helps to protect against the dreaded bird measles. May need a little assist from a brush, but rinsing gets rid of most of it.

    Boat therapy

Yesterday was not a good day dealing with a local government agency. It should have been simple, but simple became unfathomable. But enough of that. Afterward, I headed down to my boat. Just as I arrived a bit of sun appeared. I stepped into the cabin and I immediately felt better. A...

    Visit to Bellingham

Gate 3 at Squalicum Harbor is usually unlocked because that is where the majority of the brokerage boats are located. Plenty of boat watching there. The harbor also has several good restaurants if a meal is needed. Other than the harbor I would recommend a stroll through Fairhaven, although...

    Bonjour!

Oui, bienvenue. C'est un groupe tres accueillant, et il y a beaucoup de gens bien experimentes. Etre a la retraite, C'est la meilleur ! (Desole, mon clavier n'a pas d'accents). In English: you will find lots of good advice here, as well as people willing to share everything about boats...

How far away is your boat?

Less than a mile. We can see the boat from our house that is on a bluff overlooking the marina. I'm usually at the boat each afternoon. Nothing like propinquity to stimulate use.

    A nice boat for somebody.

I go by this boat every day as I go down to my boat. It is in outstanding shape. A real beauty. We don't care for the up and down of the stairs in this design, but the boat is immaculate.

    Surveyor in Blaine Wa.

A third vote for Matt. He surveyed our GB for us and did an outstanding job.

    Some familiar faces...

Welcome Da Nag. We are members of c-brats, having owned 3 c-dorys prior to our Grand Banks. Congrats on the tug!

Kingfisher is just a dock down from ours, and she is pretty!

Prop change like having a new RIB

Stainless props are stronger, but when you hit something you may also take out the lower unit. Here in the PNW where there is much debris in the water I prefer a material other than stainless. To me it is better to lose a prop than a lower unit

    Amazing Polish

Pcoch, when I used poliglow it started to yellow after the first season. I applied two coats. It looked great for a time, but then slowly started to yellow, expecially on those surfaces more exposed to the sun. Captrigney, I only use permanon on finished teak. The only thing I use on my...

    Amazing Polish

I've used both products. The poliglow look good at first, but did turn yellow and was difficult to remove. I'm much happier with the permanon. I still use old fashion wax on the hull, but use permanon on the house and flying bridge. I also use the stuff on my teak, which seems to be holding...

Old fat men and engine rooms

Our GB32 is a wonderful boat, but engine access is difficult. I'm old but skinny and have some difficulty in reaching parts of the engine. I have resigned myself to the fact that part of my retirement income will go to paying young, skinny guys to access parts of the engine room that I cannot...

    Boats and body parts

As an aside, I also tell folks who want to hold a fender during docking maneuvers to never wrap the line around their hands or anything attached to your body.

Freezing temps and keeping the boat operational

We use our boat all year long. For the most part, we do not need to winterize in Bellingham. But, for unusually cold spells like this past we week we do the following: One of these in the engine room: http://www.goldenroddehumidifiers.com/introduction.htm One of these in the cabin...

    Booms & Stern-thruster add-ons

We purchased and installed a sideshift stern thruster and have been very pleased with it on our GB32. We have taken lessons and can back and fill so that we don't need a thruster for most maneuvers. But my wife is happier with the thruster so we we boat more, we boat with more confidence, and...

    Back into boating

We installed a sideshift stern thruster on our 32 GB and couldn't be happier. It was an easy install and it moves the boat well.

    Seawise Davit

Our seawise davit system works perfectly with out 9' Livingston and a 2hp Honda. We also got a good deal on the system because we worked directly with the guy who builds the davits and agreed to pay cash and take delivery at his shop just over the border. A benefit of living in Bellingham.

Fiberglass work needed in Bellingham, suggestions?

I too had some gelcoat work done by Seaview North. The job was very well done. The estimate I received from them was within a few dollars of the other estimates I obtained.

True! I always appreciate the help, and I offer whenever I can.

    bow thrusters

We have a single with both bow and stern thrusters. Maybe not necessary, but we boat more because my wife is much more confident. For us it's about being comfortable in using our boat when we want to.

    Anacortes fly in

I'll second Bellingham as an easy city to stay in and visit Anacortes. Especially if you can get a direct flight. There are many hotels to chose from and car rental choices.

    Interesting boats

That new entry lives just a few slips down from us. It is a very tall boat and with all that weight on top it must be difficult to handle when the winds kick up.
