We did have a sump for our A/C condensate lines. The condensate water is very, very pure. As a result of that we never had any issues with that sump system.
Not automatic. We had a wall switch.
So what if you forget to turn the pump on ? The water will begin to accumulate around your feet in your shower pan. Impossible not to notice.
And what if you forget to turn the pump off ? Our pump, while not overly noisy, made enough noise that you...
Ditch the sump and pump directly overboard. Eliminates sump box cleaning and issues with the float switch.
Opinions (and prices) vary re best pump. We used Shurflows and never had a problem. Never had a Whale Gulper but have read many positive comments from satisfied users.
Three things:
Oil filters have a useful life as well. One may extend the use of the oil (based on analysis) but exceed the useful life of the filter.
When one goes to sell the boat and a potential purchaser asks about oil changes the response will be " I ignored the manufacturer's...
I have had great success cleaning with acetone, as recommended by the manufacturer, and a Magic Eraser. Despite the common perception that this will damage the cord cover, this has worked for years with the only effect being a clean power cord. I am still trying to find someone who has actually...
Hang a couple of fenders vertically from your swim platform staples. Barely above the water. Then, as others have suggested, tie it abeam, bow and stern.
Agree. The question is what is the true depth of water at high tide. I simply outline the steps I use to get an accurate answer to that. The calculation is simple and it uses real time data.
The point I was trying to make is that 92 feet of rode in 12 feet of water....seems like a lot until...
Regarding the calculation of scope, the denominator for my boat is:
depth under the keel (what is on the depth display) + draft + height of pulpit above the water + tide.
So in 12 feet of water, with a 6 foot tide range and anchoring at mid tide my calculation is:
7 feet under the keel + 5 foot...
Church Creek is about 20 miles south of Charleston. Anchorage is protected from waves, wide, not too deep, good holding. This is an easy days travel from Beaufort, SC.
Awendaw Creek is about 20 miles north of Charleston. Same characteristics. Easy day's travel from Church Creek.
Study up on...
From Moonfish: "We also have a 3/4 enclosure so on cool mornings we keep the enclosure closed and as it warms we roll up panels to what is comfortable. PH doesn't allow that kind of adjustment."
Well, actually, it does. If it is hot we run the air conditioning. If it is cold we run the heat...
+1 It seems so simple. As other posters have indicated, an oil change is easy and cheap. Why not just follow engine manufacturer's recommendations?
So you do intensive oil sampling and stretch the oil another 50 hours. Does that stretch apply to the filter as well?
Seems like the "lore"...
Impellers work well, until they don't. I would not be comfortable running the boat with pieces of impeller vane partially blocking flow through the heat exchangers. We regularly run WOT and want the cooling functioning as designed.
Impellers are not expensive and, for most, changing is a DIY...
We installed SeaDek on the swim platforms on 2 boats. It came out beautifully and we never had any issues with delamination.
You can do the install, not that hard. Follow the instructions carefully and you should have no problems.

Great advice from Wifey-B. Buying a salt water cruising boat without any cruising experience....you may not get it right.
Ship the Carver to the Tennessee River - 100 miles from Atlanta - and start by cruising down to the Gulf. The knowledge gained will be invaluable if you do decide to trade...
Have you considered getting rid of the box/float/pump and installing an in-line pump to pump the shower water directly overboard? Controlled by a simple switch- on when you get in - off when done. We have that system now in both heads and I am so happy to be free of box cleaning, float failure...
+1 on SBI. We have not had any issues with banking, licenses, insurance, voting, etc.
It is possible to operate almost totally electronically, so we do not get much mail. But what we get is handled very well by SBI.
