    californian goes down

Glad you and your family are okay... I have a Californian 30 too, it's quite a "wake up call" to see pics of yours in the water like that. In fact, I was already down in the engine compartment crawling around looking at the exhaust and fittings. It made me finally spend the money for an...

    Fish in your AC strainer?

The frustration continues... I can’t run the pump for more than an hour or so before it shuts off. The pump is only a few months old, each time I empty about a dozen shad out of the strainer. I know that the March and BlueC pumps can get mud in those little cooling tube lines, so I’m guessing...

    Fish in your AC strainer?

I had the bottom cleaned by the diver about 3 months ago, and as far as I’ve found there isn’t any underwater lighting nearby. BUT, I may have discovered the problem. I think the guy on the boat next door dropped a baited crab trap in the water behind his boat and that’s attracting all these...

Just a few I wouldn’t think much of, but I’m talking about being FULL..

    Fish in your AC strainer?

Has anyone had any problems with catching fish in the AC strainer? I’ve been living on the boat for about 7 years, never had an issue with this, and this last week my AC strainer has filled with minnows twice! I’ve emptied one or two out before, no big deal, but yesterday the pump breaker...

    1979 Californian 30'

I own and live on a 1978 Californian 30ft with the 6cyl Perkins. There weren’t very many built so not a lot of info out there. Mine doesn’t have the turbo, it does have a flybridge, isn’t fast at all but it is efficient...

    Honda Genset Housing

Well I hate to ask because I feel like I'm kicking a hornet's nest, but... What really IS the difference between these portable generators and marine generators? Isn't, for instance, a marine gas generator mounted and running inside your engine compartment theoretically just as dangerous as a...

    30' Californian sedan

I'm still living on the boat in Texas, officially. However I feel like I live at the crashpad in Newark, yuck... I'm sure it was quick before, it originally had a turbocharger on it and there were trim tabs at one time, so I assume it would scoot.

    30' Californian sedan

Here's the only picture I have from when the boat was out of the water with the previous owner. It's due for some bottom paint so I'll end up with some more pictures but this is it for now.

    Californian 30

I don't get as much speed out of mine, at one point mine was turbocharged though and a previous owner had the turbo taken off and a nice custom heat exchanger built. Perhaps they didn't change the prop and that's what mine needs a change to get it moving at a more reasonable speed when needed.

    Liveaboard in the DC area?

Thanks for the info everyone. I ended up getting based out of Newark NJ so my focus will be up there for now, I really appreciate the info. Hopefully someone else looking for liveaboard in DC will find this thread and get to use some of the info. Happy Boating!

    Long Island NY Liveaboard

Yeah those NY taxes are brutal. And the toll roads I have discovered are outrageous. I guess I'm just really used to living in the south and how cheap it is down there. I have been working like crazy since I have been based in EWR since March. Unfortunately I have had very little time off...

    Long Island NY Liveaboard

Any ideas for farther east on the north shore of Long Island? I talked to someone at a marina in Port Jeff and he mentioned a 10-12 year waiting list for a slip there...

    Liveaboard in the DC area?

Thanks for all the info folks. I am still considering it but have had some other things going on so haven't made a scouting trip up to DC yet. Long Island area is another possibility for me so I have been researching that as well. It might be difficult to leave the year round warm weather of...

    Liveaboard in the DC area?

Well we are opening a new crew base in IAD so at the moment there isn't anyone there I know of who could give me much info on the commute. Since I only do one trip a week and it's not normally at rush hour times I was looking into some of the marinas farther down river, even as far as Quantico.

Any thoughts on marinas farther down the Potomac? I wouldn't mind be about an hour away from IAD.

    Liveaboard in the DC area?

Anyone liveaboard in the DC area? I was looking at the option of working out of IAD airport and was wondering if there are any liveaboard marinas on the Potomac. Thanks for the info!

    Long Island NY Liveaboard

Well currently I would have the option of working out of Newark, but in the future who knows. It would most likely always be an option to work out of at least one of the three major airports in the area.

    Newbie question

Did you google "how much does a whale poop in a day?" Or is that just some random knowledge you have been waiting to share? Just think: not too many years ago if you wanted to know about whale poop you had to go to the library. Ain't technology grand?
