    Best 15hp outboard these days?

I had a 25 hp Yamaha. The most rattally engine I’ve ever encountered. I hated that thing. One day it just wouldn’t start and no one could fix it even though it was only 10 years old. I have replaced it with a Tahatsu and find it to be a much better engine

    Pod drive????

I am actually fascinated by this because if you read the Internet everyone hates them. However tons of new boats come with them. So clearly manufacturers believe that their clients want them. No idea which is the correct answer.

    Medium Range cruising

It obviously is not really a thing. I understand what is needed for a coastal cruiser, and I understand if I’m crossing oceans what is necessary. There’s a pretty good amount in between and I was trying to figure out what that would entail. Something along the lines of going down the East Coast...

    Medium Range cruising

The current plan is buy something in the 35 to 45 foot range and do coastal cruising for the next 5-10 years to get experience while we continue to work. Then once we are ready to retire, make a decision whether we want to go further a field or just keep the boat we have and continue to cruise...

    Question(s) for older boaters...

The market is crazier now but I remember reading very similar threads 4-5 years ago. Prices don’t go up always, but over the long term they do. People are still scarred from the 08-09 downturn and seeing nice boats sell for nearly nothing and while we will have another recession it’s unlikely to...

    Nordhavn alternatives

I asked a similar question awhile back. This thread had some helpful responses. https://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/s3/medium-range-cruising-51291.html

"The hidden costs of owning a (super)yacht"

‘He estimates that a 150-foot superyacht will cost around $2 million a year or roughly $200,000 a week to run.’ That is some really terrible math.

    Is Part Time Cruising Possible?

I agree. If you’re using it that little I would definitely recommend chartering. You can do it in 2 to 4 week increments fairly easily and that way you can pick wherever you want to be. If you want to do the Bahamas go to Bahamas, if you want to do elsewhere in the Caribbean the Pacific...

    Interesting article on boat sales

I lived through the last crash, and still have the scars, so I understand where you’re coming from. But that was a once in a lifetime event. We usually have economic slowdown’s not crashes. Could it happen? Of course. Do I think it’s likely, no.. I do agree that the frenzy in boats, real estate...

    Greenline 40: General Discussion

I have always been someone who buys used. Cars, boats, etc. The thing is there are virtually no used Greenlines on the market right now so you may not have a choice.

    DIY Maintenance

It is funny. I do all my boat maintenance but I pretty much never touch my car. My boats are all trainable so nothing super complicated. By the time I hook up the trailer and take it to the mechanic I can usually have the work already done. Plus I want to learn as much about the boat as...

    Charleston For July 4th

I know all of the fireworks displays have been canceled. Can’t say what else but things are being canceled left and right

    When Will Boat Prices Drop?

Not sure this applies to the larger boat market or to other areas of the country, but talking to dealers for smaller center console boats around Charleston, they are completely out of boats. They have seen a run on purchases as boating is something you can do while social distancing. People are...

    When Will Boat Prices Drop?

We are a few months into it, has anyone’s opinion changed? I have seen quite a few price drops but I’m not sure if that’s just season ending in Florida/Islands.

    Medium Range cruising

This is part of my struggle. I want a boat with at least 1000 nm range, but I’d like it to be under 50 feet. Finding that is possible but it’s been a bit of a challenge. I understand on these long stretches I’m gonna have to go slow, which is fine. I would prefer to be eight or nine knots...

    Medium Range cruising

. I’ve been on a lot of boats and when they get above 50 they just seem to get to be a lot for two people. I know there’s people who are perfectly comfortable with it but it just becomes a lot of maintenance and a lot of boat to handle for two people imo. The thing is is 50 feet is a somewhat...

    Medium Range cruising

I like the Fleming. It’s a little bigger than I was wanting but I would consider it since it’s small for its length if that makes sense. Unfortunately there are zero for sale. That’s the type of boat I’m looking for though. I agree with others about buying used. I said my budget was 1 million...

    Medium Range cruising

I try to like the tug style boats because they do seem to check a lot of boxes but I just do not like how they look. Maybe I can get over it. I need to get on one and check them out.

    Medium Range cruising

I have looked at those and thought about them. My only problem with them is there’s no lower helm or pilot house. If you’re planning to make a multi day crossing that is a dealbreaker to me

    Medium Range cruising

I’m fine spending the majority of time between eight and 10 knots. I would like the ability to go up to 15 knots but it’s not mandatory. I just don’t think I can stand spending most of my time going 5 to 6 knots. I really like the larger cockpits as I feel like at anchor that will be where we...

    Medium Range cruising

Hey all I have spent years reading this forum and have learned a great deal. One thing I am struggling to wrap my head around is what type of boat is appropriate to reach beyond the Bahamas. I understand if you want to cross oceans you are looking at Kady Krogen and Nordhavn. If you just want...
