I agree with Dave. We were in the same situation a few years ago and replaced it.

Block Island a good side trip?

Block Island is a fun stop as long as you don't do it in the peak of the summer season. Call for a mooring or anchor but watch out for the mooring field and the northern restricted area. The officials pay attention. The town has a dinghy dock and it is just a short walk to downtown.

Whos going to Maine this summer?

We have been downeast many times. We usually take a straight shot from the Mt. Desert area to the Jonesport, Beals Island, Roque Island area. You can spend days there. Then a short jaunt to Cutler, not much there but nice hiking on Western head preserve. From there to Lubec and beyond. Be...

    Dumb Newb Questions

W, My suggestions are to take your time making a decision and to spend half of what you think your boat budget shall be. Find local boating groups and clubs and go hang out with the folks discussing boats and boating. We all love to do that. Ask to see their boats, ask about the good and the...

Low Voltage - Possible corrosion Problem?

Over the years, I have found the most electrical issues are on the ground side. Start at the batteries and follow the negative side back towards the gear that has low voltage. Look for corrosion and yank on each crimp connector. You will probably find one or more bad spots that are giving you...

    Looking for a marine mechanic

Graham, It may be easier to do this your self. It is not that hard. First clean the engine. You can use one of the engine spray cleaners and rinse with fresh water. Pay special attention to the areas around the injectors and the injector pump. Let it dry well, then remove all of the injector...

    ArriveCAN and Nexus in 2024

This past summer we entered Canada at Kingston and called with our Nexus info. We were told to enter the marina and wait five minutes for an officer. We were told that we could proceed ashore if no officer showed up within the five minute time frame. I do not think that someone could walk out...

    Portland Pudgy Compass Question

I think that you should find a good plug system and seal it while you decide whether you will find a compass, a Bluetooth speaker or nothing at all.

Whos going to Maine this summer?

Please contact us for local Maine info. We may be downeast or on the St. John or Nova Scotia for a while this summer but we are always available to help other cruisers (especially KK'ers)

    Chain locker drain

The easiest way to handle this is to vacuum out the bottom of the chain locker once a year. Let is all dry, scrape it and clean it out. This will give you an opportunity to survey your chain and rode when you take it all out for the annual cleaning and remarking the chain.

    Hello from Maine

Ted, Welcome to the forum. We also live in Augusta and keep Jubilee in Rockland. We have been sailing and now cruising for many (many) years and are always interested in talking boats and boating. Send me a pm and maybe we can get together. Cheers Ansley

What are your boating goals of 2024 ?

We will be staying close to home this summer. We will go downeast to Lubec and Eastport Maine, then up the St. Croix river to Calais. We may cross into Canada at St. Andrews and head for the St. John river in New Brunswick. Then possibly over to Nova Scotia for scallops at Digby and then maybe...

Garmin GC100 vs GC200 camera and GC100 fix for wifi issues

I agree with the wired approach. We have a 200 stern camera and it is great. I wired it with its own power switch so I can use it when I want. Great for docking etc.

    Garmin Sonar for Cruising

Forward Scan Sonar We also have the PS51 on Jubilee and I use it to sniff out the shoals when going slowly into tight places. The picture shows a typical display when slowly underway. You can see that we are showing 34.2 feet under our keel and the beam goes out forward about 105 feet with a...

Forward looking transducer? Do they work?

We also have the PS51 on Jubilee and I use it to sniff out the shoals when going slowly into tight places. The picture shows a typical display when slowly underway. You can see that we are showing 34.2 feet under our keel and the beam goes out forward about 105 feet with a pretty flat bottom...

    Fuel transfer between tanks

Paul, Uneven draw from two tanks may be due to the amount of suction each tank line has when the engine is running and it also may be due to an uneven fuel return from the engine to the tanks. Once a vessel starts to list to one side, an open transfer line can make the listing worse by...

2023: biggest seas encountered this year?

Eight to Ten We got up for an early start on a cloudy and windy day with thunderstorms predicted for the afternoon. We had a full day’s run of forty-five miles with the wind on our stern. It was blowing out of the south east and we would be protected from the waves until we got past the end of...

    Garmin Sonar for Cruising

When we put this system into Jubilee, I wondered if I could see the middle and the sides of a channel well enough to navigate along a narrow path. The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and the canals in Canada came to mind. The side scan sonar looks out to the sides with a very narrow (2 degree)...

    Garmin Sonar for Cruising

Garmin lets one view different views at the same time. I can put the forward scan, the side scan and the downward scan all up at the same time. They can be shown on different screens or on a composite screen set up.
