Refinish Teak and Holly interior deck/floor/cabin sole

I completely agree that its not worth the fancy varnish, and a floor sander wouldn't be appropriate (wouldn't even fit in most of the spaces I'd need to get to). I worry about penetrating epoxy as it may discolor the wood. The goal with the epoxy (I realize that all epoxy will penetrate) is to...

Refinish Teak and Holly interior deck/floor/cabin sole

Its the interior deck only. It looks like the structure comes from the wood itself rather than a backer or core. The flex is coming from the broken bond between the individual "boards". I believe there is some sort of backing, but I can't tell what its condition is under the wood.

Refinish Teak and Holly interior deck/floor/cabin sole

I am the proud new owner of a 1986 Nova 42. One of the many projects on my to-do list is to refinish the worn out floors (pics attached below). Does anyone know what they used in Taiwan when they built these the first time? My broker said he thinks it might be "Defthane" Polyurethane clear...

    Trawler Heating

I agree, it would be great to find one with it already installed, but they are rare around San Diego. I did a search through yachtworld just to see what kinds of systems other people were using and maybe 1 in 10 boats had anything listed at all. Mostly newer, nicer, and way more expensive boats...

    Trawler Heating

I bet my wife would jump at the opportunity to buy you a drink and pick your brain about your experience (so would I). Did you ever consider adding a washer/dryer to your boat? My wife is a bit in love with the idea. Few boats have them built in, but we have been narrowing our search to boats...

    Trawler Heating

I was actually thinking something like that might be a good option. At least temporarily until my next regular haul out for a bottom job, when I could add a through hull without the extra haul out expense.

    Trawler Heating

It'll be an adventure for sure! I've always wanted to live on a sailboat. The wife likes the idea too, but not so sure about the sailboat. She is 100% on board (pun intended) with the trawler lifestyle though. We were already considering it for our next home, and when we found out we were being...

    Trawler Heating

I hadn't considered a heat pump. I'll definitely look into it. Are they very difficult to install?

    Trawler Heating

My wife and I are moving to San Diego and have decided to take the plunge and live aboard. We've narrowed it down to some favorite boats in the 38-42 ft range, but none have heating or AC. After some research and advice from our broker, we've determined that AC isn't really necessary, and that...

Raise a family on a boat

Well, I'm a pilot and probably gonna get out in a few years, and she's a nurse and probably gonna stay in. We're both about 30 and don't want to wait too long to have kids. With her staying in, we'd likely move about every 3 years. I agree with your concerns and thats kind of the wrench in the...

Really appreciate the recommendation. Already ordered one of his books, you should ask for your commission.

Raise a family on a boat

Anyone here have thoughts/experiences on raising a family on a boat? I've always wanted to live on a sailboat, and my fiance's compromise is to move aboard live on a trawler. We're both in the Navy and pretty much always live near the water and love it. We are also planning on having kids in the...
