No hot water or bus heater?

First shake down cruise on a new to me boat. Runs extremely well. Engine runs at perfect temperature of 180 But, neither the bus heater or hot water tank heat up from engine. Hot water tank was “just” installed by PO before I took delivery. Antifreeze is up. Thoughts?

    Small, classic displacement hull trawlers

I’ve had trawlers in the PNW but always sailboats in Florida to Bahamas. Thinking of switching to the dark side down south as well What other small, full displacement, low hp boats are there besides the Willard 30 Vega series and the Maple Bay 27? Looking for seaworthy and low hp efficiency

2005 Msinship trawler, single 370… issues?

Hi all I’m considering a 2006 34 trawler. Love the high bulwarks, huge bridge deck and great “couples boat” interior. Engine room access is tight for an arthritic guy like myself… How are the 370s? I’m a sailor and would run 6-7 knots most often. Fuel burn at that speed? (Other single 370 owners...

    Cummins 5.9 water pump access

This may have already been covered somewhere, if so, I couldn’t find. Wondering if a solution been found to repair or replace the water pump without removing the port side engine mount? Thanks

    Solar charging

I was asked about my solar on another thread and thought starting a new one dedicated to solar would be best. I’ve done solar for over 10yrs now both at an off grid cottage and on multiple boats. First off.. -you need an “energy Budjet” meaning “how much do you use?” Lights LED? Fridge...

Modifying a sailboat to trawler type cruising

Infamous looper “Capt John” is an advocate of using a sailboat, mast removed, for the most comfortable and economical way to see the loop. I’d still want a bit of a steadying sail tho... Cruising America's Great Loop and Inland Waterways He has a very good site!

50yr old Oday Mariner 2+2 19ft sailboat to mini trawler conversion

Hi all I’ve cruised all over but never the canal systems so close to home in Ontario Canada. The Rideau, Trent, and Erie canals are all close by. Wanted trailer ability, reliability, and low cost both to own and operate. Retired with a shop to work out of, bought an old Oday Mariner 2+2 on a...

What a classic 18fter by Tad Roberts

I just love this boat! When day dreaming about a small, trailetable boat it’s hard to imagine a better looking one! Fashioned off the old BC work boats, imagine this with the house extended a bit further aft for more cabin. A little 10hp diesel or an 8hp high thrust outboard would be all needed...

Is a Camano “big enough” ?

For the purpose of full disclosure, I admit to being a minimalist by nature and strongly feel the best boat for anyone is the smallest one suited for their intended use. (I also feel everyone should be totally honest with themselves on how they truly will use their boat) After spending nearly...

    Albin 25...pros-cons.....”watch out for’s”

Found a reasonably priced 25 and was thinking it would make a good trailer boat at home. There are 3 canal systems, multiple lakes and rivers as well as the North channel within easy trailer distance from home base. Any concerns? Things to look for? They seem to be a really simply, efficient...

Travels of "Emma B" (JD powered Helmsman)

Quick update. Scott was kind enough to come with me through the lock from Lake Union out. Made it to Port Ludlow the first night July 26th. Helmsman 31 with John Deere 125hp arrived

Being a sailor, I hoped for a low rpm 7 knot cruise and felt the John Deere suited this application much better. The boat arrived last week and after sea trials, determined the prop required re-pitching. Final testing should be this Thursday or Friday. This is the first Helmsman 31 (Camano)...
