Hello everyone, Well they are real, they got the boat back in the water, and now they are underway on the 1000 mile journey with the PVC tiller. The Albermarle Sound (crossing) video is great... __________________ Gene :^) 1914 Fantail Motor Yacht of Riveted Iron & Steel...

    What are these?

Maybe they mount to the cabin top and were to hold up paravane poles when not in use. __________________ Gene :^) 1914 Fantail Motor Yacht of Riveted Iron & Steel http://www.Strathbelle.com

    Owner absent , Crew Meal

FF, Strathbelle has her blue/white on the underside of the starboard spreader with the white outboard and the blue inboard. I have seen the blue outboard and white inboard on other boats, I do not know which is correct or if it matters. But starboard side is definitely correct. I plan to...

another way to use a PWC

Each guy flying on the hose is connected to, dragging, and controlling his own pwc with no one on it. 100% of the pwc thrust is routed to the flying rig, the pwc becomes a floating power unit only. They control the throttle while flying, more throttle means more thrust, and they steer or...

    Newbie Questions-Fuel Consumption and Stabilizers

My reply was appropriate for this thread, especially when you consider that the OP is completely new to boating. For experienced skippers the added requirements may not be much. For a newbie, it is a more to learn and more tasks to keep track of when underway. Especially while still trying to...

    Newbie Questions-Fuel Consumption and Stabilizers

FYI: many people own boats over 65 feet, I just wanted to make you aware of the extra effort required. Also be aware of line 2 of my post, most boatyards only have 75 ton or less Travel-lifts. You can quickly limit the choice of repair facilities with weight. Most boatyards with larger...

    Newbie Questions-Fuel Consumption and Stabilizers

The actual rule (cut off) is 20 meters, so at 65 ft you are ok, but 66 foot and you are over. I don't have all the links for you, but a quick google came up with these below. If you look at this first link about requirements (and others you find on your own) you will notice the requirements...

    Newbie Questions-Fuel Consumption and Stabilizers

Keep it under 65 foot or else you are considered a ship with more requirements to meet. Keep it under 75 tons or else you limit the number of facilities which can haul you for maintenance and repairs. Most affordable marinas are limited to 50 feet max. Most mooring fields are limited to 40...

    Adding chain

The first is called a "Double Clevis" if you google it will come up. I have never had a problem finding it at hardware stores. I use it for my tractor links. Might take some looking to find a good quality one, most are stamped "China" and don't look very nice.

    Adding chain

I was googling to see what else was out there... I found the "Hammer Lock" clevis.* Looks strong, but I wonder how secure the pin is (does it stay in place). Again there is still a concern about how it passes through the windlass.

    Adding chain

I have not done it, but I think I would trust a "Double Clevis" more. You would have to test to see how it would go through the windlass. Under no load other than the chain it should just ride over the wildcat. I would not pull hard as it passes. Picture attached... -- Edited by Gene at 23:53...

    Knot Trouble

Thanks, but I was thinking to myself that my coils are backwards in the photo. I normally roll them in the other direction so they flow off the cleat nicer.

    Knot Trouble

The "S" shape is just a different design, maybe partially for asthetics. The main purpose of the "S" is to allow tool access to the mounting bolts. You can use a socket and extension instead of an end wrench. Traditional cleats use bolts thru the entire cleat with the head captured. You...

    MMSI numbers

Phil/Fill, * Not related to AIS. This is DSC which is a sort of "caller id" for your VHF. The MMSI is your personal number which shows up on the screen of a DSC VHF. * You probably have plain old VHF radios in your boat which is why you are not familiar with this. The new VHF radios have a...

    Shower water and soap

A "trash pump" like the Whale Gulper uses pistons or diaphrams to create suction and pressure (alternating). The flow of water is controlled by flapper doors (like one way valves). This allows the pump to pass solids (trash) as well as liquids. I think the Whale Gulper is rated to 1.5inch...
