Electric tug under design and to be built

The plan is for one to be funded by 2025 for Guemes Island, which is a very short cross channel hop from Anacortes. Our "illustrious" CiC, aka "where's Joe?" is pushing for one north of there on Lummi Island, that most residents are just shaking their heads in wonder about.

Are Gardner Diesel Engines really that good?

When I was still working in boatyards many years ago now, in Seattle, the well known author Ernest K. Gann bought his classic wood boat the Sea Puss into us a couple of times for odd and ends of work. I installed a davit on it to help get the dog off and on the boat. I remember she had a...

    capsized boat

There is a loud lube oil alarm on mine that goes off when key is turned. I do lock my boat and the key is not in. In watching the vid it appears he may have not been rolled if he was able to get the bow to the swell, maybe...

Rescue of the Bounty, Michael J. Tougias and Douglas A. Campbell Title seems odd as the Bounty was not rescued.

    capsized boat

I recently read a good book about the sinking of the replica BOUNTY during Superstorm Sandy some years back. The CG rescue swimmers are in the thick of it. Very good read.

Change in vax requirements for Canada?

I see several stories on line today stating that un vaccinated people can travel to Canada if they pre test, then quarantine for 14 days and test again on day 8. Any truth to this or is it just bad reporting.

    Tonga eruption....

I have had people call me a liar over this but its absolutely true. Was living on a houseboat on Lake Union in Seattle when the Ak quake hit and we were first on the long dock that just was built on piling. The lake level actually rose and fell just a bit, not much, and also our dock started...

    Tug aground leaking fuel

That is the company I used to work for and in fact that particular tug, the Western Mariner, I made the maiden voyage on around 1985 and had my first mates job on her. Made many trips to SE on her during my time there some years ago.

    Battery box woes

Recently had my house 8D fail so we put in a couple of G27's in its place in a big plastic battery box with lid and tie downs. Those two smaller batteries needed something to keep them from sliding around though, so I cut a couple pcs of 2x4 tight enuf to block them in place, and drove a big...

    What... A Tolly forum?

Many years ago (1977?)I had just started working for a boat yard in Seattle and one of my jobs was being the gofer. They supplied prop shafts to Tolly down in Longview I guess it was. So my boss says, hey we need you to drive a bunch of shafts down to Tolly. Cool! All day road trip. On the way...

    Hard starting detroit 471

My brother who worked as asst engineer on this boat when my dad ran it had to rattle his noodle quite a bit but we finally figured out the engines were Cleveland 8-268A models and probably turbo because they were rated at 500HP each whereas it was rated at 350HP standard. As you noted above...

What the Polar Star/Bonham looked like recently as a derelict. One of the easiest riding boats I ever sailed on. Wonderful sea boat.
