    Waste hose sizes

Thanks for the advice. So it should be OK to go with all 1 inch on the toilet with macerator? It would certainly be easier than running new 1 1/2 inch and should keep the pressure higher to push the waste through.

    Waste hose sizes

We have purchased a 1981 Defever 41. First job is to replace a old, permeated waste system. The holding tank and all hoses have now been removed. (Wish I was 30 years younger and 2 ft shorter due to the tight spots to get into to do this job) So now its back to the bilges to run the new hose...

    Gulf Commander

Thanks for the additional info Hawgwash. I did look at a Uniflite but it was certainly blistered a lot so moved on. Something to check on in case the GC I am interested in has that hull.

    Gulf Commander

Thanks for the info. I am also interested in a '77 40 ft Tolly. Looking at your vessel, you might be able to help in any advice in what issues you have found in your model. Do you know what the wood look material is on the side and fore decks? Are the old tanks prone to leaking? Any idea on...

    Gulf Commander

Finally got out the west coast to start searching for boats. Been onboard around 20 boats of interest including Canoe Coves, Tollys and Defevers. Some good, some very rough. Nothing yet that we could see ourselves on. We seem to have run out of anything of interest so curious if it is normal for...

    Taking the plunge?

As hawgwash has noted, we do live in a remote area of Nova Scotia. No marinas with boats like on the west coast out here. This village is a fishing village on the largest tides on earth - fishing boats here that float high at the wharf at high tide and as 30 vertical feet of water leave, settle...

    Taking the plunge?

In your opinion, for sleeping comfort, would it not be best to have a aft cabin. Thinking of being on anchor and waves slapping up against the bow, noise from anchor rode as it swings where the attachment is at the bow. If fore or aft makes no real difference, we were sort of set on a...

Hawgwash, thanks for the offer to look at that CML. Very generous. (sent a private message) Yes, that Bayliner does look good. I wonder about the fresh water capacity for longer tours away from marinas. I guess could get a water maker. With no generator would look into the gas Honda solution...

    Taking the plunge?

Hawgwash, there is a start up video with the listing for that CML. The broker mentions he believes there are around 2500 hours on the engines in that video. I imagine he knows very well what the hours are or he wouldn't say that. I assume those are what they are calling low hours. The low hours...

    Taking the plunge?

The C&C actually has over 2000 hrs on the engines, not sure why they read 343. If we were to look at it I guess that would be a big question. If you don't have a generator you need to run the main engines to charge the batteries unless you go to a marina? I wonder how many days you can run on...

Northern Spy, yes that's the boat. I liked it but my wife doesn't. My main issue is no generator. Wife does not like the comfort level for a liveaboard, which is understandable looking at the seating in the cabin. If we buy in October we might do our first and only winter on the boat we decide...

Doesn't give a lowly Canadian (dollar wise) looking for a boat on the west coast a warm and fuzzy feel.

This is from a ad for another Ocean Alexander for sale. I assumed that it would mean all Ocean Alexanders were designed by Monk and then built in the Blakely yard. Not so? The trawler part confuses me - what classes a boat as a trawler if these boats aren't? I do thank you Keith for pointing...

    Taking the plunge?

Sorry for upsetting some. As my source of information is the internet for trying to decide on the best boat to buy, I though it would be OK to post some of the info I read and let the experts tell me the reality. None of it is MY opinions as my experience with these boats in non existent - why...

    Taking the plunge?

Thanks again everyone. Nope, wont be rebuilding anything. In fact would like to find something fairly dependable as we aren't needing a project. We will be heading out into remote areas of the Pacific northwest mainly to explore and do some kayaking (after 15 years of running kayaking adventure...

    Taking the plunge?

Thanks for the advice everyone. Yes, we are newbies. I personally have no opinions on boats built in different regions as I have no knowledge other than what I read on the subject. We all have to start somewhere, and these forums are great for that. The reason I mentioned the quality in...

    Taking the plunge?

Hi, my wife and I are thinking of starting a new adventure (recently retired at 60 from running sea kayaking and RIB adventure tourism business on the largest tides on earth of the Bay of Fundy) by buying a well used trawler on the west coast of Canada and living aboard in the summers. We will...
