    Dickerson Diesel Stove/Heater

Kerosene While im sure the specs are more specific now, i remember reading many years ago that one of the important characteristics of kerosene was that it function properly in wick type devices. That may provide a clue to your solution.

Ford Lehman 120 Broken Exhaust Elbow Stud

I’m all for the heat and penetrant of your choice as a primer but have had exceptional luck with 30 seconds of rat tat tat using a Sears cordless nail driver (palm nailer). For some reason the small repeated blows are an order of magnitude better than the old ball peen. I used vice grips...

    drill bits

Probably not applicable here but worth passing on is a “twist” on the always destructive act of hitting the rung off bolt with a hammer and twisting off what’s left with vice grips. The trick is to use an electric hammer (Sears cordless) for about 20 seconds. It’s proven to be quite effective...

    My dad's drafting tools

You might try the city where the shipyard was that built the ship you modeled or perhaps the Mariners Museum in Newport News. Doubt the shipyard still exists.

    Cutlass bearing or something else?

Tranny fluid Check the tranny fluid, look for anything that might suggest a bad output shaft bearing. Might let the thing idle out of gear for a long while and see if the noise is any more frequent after it gets hot.

    USNS COMFORT Departure

Concur with jaxbchjohn. Degaussing Saw a naval vessel make several similar runs just inside Hampton Roads about 15 miles west of there...guess it was 25 years ago. Captain was questioned by others via vhf and replied degaussing runs.

    Fishing Rod Question

I remember the day over 60 years ago I realized that the others on the boat were holding there boat rods wrong; with the reels on top, the handle on the right, and of course cranking with their right hand. But being a right handed little fella I just got over it and turned my reel up even though...

    Chesapeake Bay North - SPIDERS!

We have them on and around the Pamlico in NC. For the second year I am using Harris spider spray in a yellow bottle. Spray around web areas whenever I see them, but in general about two sprayings a season does the trick. Highly recommend it, use it on the boat and extensively on porches. The...

    NC Fun Trip Next Week...

Go west young man! Google Washington NC docks. Free docks for 48 hours, WiFi, showers but not free power and water....that costs a little. A handful of good restaurants, shops....but not a tourist hole. Several bnb’s a couple of blocks from the waterfront. Streets get rolled up early, and...

    Prop Pockets/Tunnel Drives

I bought my second Penn Yan tunnel drive new in 1977 and still own it. Used extensively in Pamlico Sound and the lower Chesapeake mostly for fishing. Truly a tunnel in that the prop barely protrudes beneath the hull, and has minimal clearance on the sides, so it is different from what you...

Wanted: wanted 350 5.7 omc long or short block

Just did a quick look at Summit and they offer Marine "built" crate engines. They are pretty reputable with the hot rodders. http://www.summitracing.com/search/brand/first-mate-marine/product-line/first-mate-marine-crate-engines One other thing to watch with the automotive engines is head...

Wanted: wanted 350 5.7 omc long or short block

After my ancient (1977) 350 threw a rod and destroyed the engine I started with a low compression (regular gas) 350 (5.7) long block crate engine directly from GM. As I recall 15 years ago that was about $1400. I had compared the part numbers and except for the pistons, heads and cam the low...
