Generator woes- low compression across all cylinders

Hi Pau Hana Did you ever solve this genset problem? My two cents would be that since it happened suddenly it is unlikely to be a mechanical issue, rather some kind of electrical connection. I would also start with this avenue of troubleshooting since it is much easier to get to than all the...

Experience with NIAD stabilizers on a GB42C

While I have never owned a boat with active stabilizers, I have five friends and one boat yard who have experience with all of the aforementioned hydraulic systems and the sea keeper. They all work very well in a perfect installation. You should realize that you are taking on a major system...

WARNING: Safety issues with Mathers controls

Andrew, you are getting some expert advice here, but you still might try what worked for me since I had the exact same symptoms as you describe now: random low-voltage error codes at the engine room modules, a an engine randomly going into forward at start up, sometimes with beeping. The very...

WARNING: Safety issues with Mathers controls

Corrosion on tiny pads in the throttle control. It’s easy to disassemble and reassemble. You will see. Happy new year from the yanks.

WARNING: Safety issues with Mathers controls

Johnpaul, that’s bad news. But wait! I was advised to do the same when I had a 15-year-old Boat with intermittent throttle problems. One I fixed by rubbing eraser on a tiny contact at the point where the cables plugged into the engine room commander module. The other one I fixed by carefully...

Advantages Of A Single Fuel Tank?

Don't change anything on your boat for at least the first year of constant usage. Then you'll know what changes you want and their priority.

Replacing ladder with stairs 1978 34MK1

Use the boat at least one season before changing anything. You’ll often find there was a good reason it was built a certain way. Trust me on this.

convert single stateroom Nordic Tug 37?

have a realistic look at how often you'll have a friend aboard. from my experience and watching many friends over 40 years - few people will accompany you on cruises or even daysails. surely you can rig up a comfortable berth on the saloon settee for the times there's another person on board...

    Swift Trawler 50

having sailed both a 34' and a 60' boat on parts of the Loop - 50' is too large a vessel for the Great Loop considering you are in confined waters at all times. also limits your marina choices as well as free dock choices as well as some anchorages. 50' is excellent for running outside from...

Smelly Boat? - One more place to look!

Dear SP3,Before you do a lot of surgery to install vents, try using fresh water to flush. You can just get a bottle you fill with water from the hose. After using the toilet dump in a glug of water from your bottle and pumpout to your holding tank. Do not pull in seawater. Try that for a...

multiple issues create a wild night!

I bought a boat on the hard that was located in that marina when it was Brewer Yacht Haven. Nice people, nice sail loft (Z sails). Spring came and Brewer's launched the boat and put it on the southern finger (40' and bigger). looked great, secure, shore power etc. I planned to bend on the...

Fuel draw with twin tanks on single diesel

My MS 34HT with the Yanmar370 had no problems drawing fuel evenly. Both tanks drew from the same spot and met in the middle of the boat at a T.. The fuel return went only to starboard tank. That engine returns a huge percentage of fuel, it’s practically like having a polishing system. The tanks...

    Engine room sound insulation

Beautiful job. Thanks for posting the pictures. And I agree that the easiest and cheapest noise fix is to plug all the little holes with foam first. Play loud music or white noise in the engine room, then go everywhere and anywhere listening for that sound/ music. Even the head.

Smelly Boat? - One more place to look!

Yes, the commercial one is very nice and a great idea but VERY expensive for what it seems to be. And the work to install it is the same as this guy’s diy idea.
