    Winterizing Batteries

Are you sure your boat doesn't already have one? my last boat was a Mainship -1 1980 vintage and it was on the right side almost under the transmission, used to open it every winter...

    Bird poop on canvas

The Sunbrella website says to use woolite and gentile cycle in washing machine - I've done this with pretty good success, if you top is large you might have to go to a laundromat that has the BIG machines...hung it out to dry - NO drier.

    Tach

Do the alternators show any charge indication before you rev the engines? if not and you have alternator driven tachs that's your answer - unfortunately that leads you do another question, why do you have to rev the engines to get the charging system working...

    Tachometer / RPM gauges

Look at it this way, if your tach suddenly stops working you probably lost your charging system, bet you'd notice this faster than an amp meter showing a slight discharge or a volt meter dropping to 12 ~ volts? don't ask how I know this...

    Tachometer / RPM gauges

I replaced my flybridge tach a few years ago, used 82302p - go to this defender page to see it - still Alternator driven however - https://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1%7C311%7C2349076%7C2349084&id=1383892 I replaced the other gauges there at the same time so everything looked right...

Can you dock your boat single handed???

nope - my dock is on a tidal river which has a 5~7 knot current which reverses twice a day, by the time I get down from the bridge the boats no longer where I want it.

    gen part needed

I don't suppose anyone has an old Onan MDJA generator sitting out in the shed or anywhere - I need an exhaust manifold part #154-0971 for mine that just failed and having a lot of trouble finding one. (OK - the laughing can start now!) single cyl, 3kw diesel unit.

Survey/ Generator who is 1800 and who is 3600RPM

37 year old MDJA still starting right up and chugging right along, they must have done something right.. 1800 rpm

    Water heaters

replaced my 30 year old Raritan? with the 6 gal. Kuuma last year, so far pretty happy - did take a few trips to the big box store for plumbing stuff but I figured on that going in - at my age now a heater that might last another 30 years doesn't have the appeal it did when I was 40ish...

    Fuel tank equalization

That is irrelevant, as the fuel pick-ups should go down to near the bottom of the tank, and siphon effect should take care of the rest, just as long as the primary filter, where the two shut off valves are situated, is well below the usable fuel level, I would think. and therein lies the rub...

    Fuel tank equalization

if that's the case, leaving both taps there before the filter open might allow them to equalise at that point as long as that filter is below the fuel levels, saving rigging up yet another connection. Have you tried that? After all, it might be why the PO didn't have a problem..? Then the return...

    Fuel tank equalization

This is a normal situation on that vintage Mainship, There is no crossover to balance the system, all fuel from engine or gen returns to the port tank. Without doing a replumb job the only control you have is the valves that control which tank the fuel is drawn from. On mine, it will develop a...

Mk 1 34 Prop Shaft Bearing?

you'll find it in the area under the sliding door, mine is mounted on the aft side of the bulkhead, some I've heard were mounted on the forward side. The REAL joy comes in greasing it, on mine, lift the lazerette cover on the aft deck and open the lower cover that shows the stuffing box, now you...
