If you have an IR hand held temp monitor use it to see what your packing temperature is.
I sugggest you keep your water feed no matter what type of packing you have.
Corrosion
I have a similar problem and use Corrosion X to prevent damage.
Still, the idea of a shield has merritt and I will follow up with the plastic painters bucket idea.
Thanks
Electronic Equipment
After my recent experience with Furuno support I can not say enough nice things about them and if the time comes for a make over they will be at the top of my list.
Cruising
We did make the trip from Seattle to Valdez when we bought the boat.
Wonderful trip except for the Gulf of Alaska crossing. Kind of long there.
wish we could do it again, just my wife and I.
Cruiser
With that sweet boat all I would need is the time.
Nice dream.
I dream of having the time to just do nothing while on my boat in PWS.
Some day.
Repower
Pretty hard to beat the Cummin 6bta, especially at arpund 300 hp.
There is also the Yanmar, at good engine with lots of them available.
I am with you. A clean fresh smelling engine room goes a long way in making the boating experience fun.
Book
I havn't seen that one before. Hard to evaluate the level that it is at with out having it in your hand. Make sure you can return it if it doesn't meet your needs.
Charger
I bet that problem is that one battery is bad and the charger is over chargering to compensate for it.
I think it would be worth my time to replace them all. They are only three years old but I did have a problem with my glow plug controller that caused a short and heavy load on...
I have deep cycle (4 ea) 6 volt golf cart battery wired together for 12 volts on my house side and (2 ea) 12 volt batterys wired together for 12 volts on the start side.
My shore powered battery charger is wired to charge both banks. It is a smart three stage battery charger.
Does it...
I want to thank all of you that have meade this day possible by putting on the uniform of our country. For what ever reason you did it, you still did it I say thanks.
Kevin's Great Adventure
Ask him about his last trip to Alaska, I wonder if he still has the pictures of all the stuff on the floor of his boat. And what was the name of the guy that got off and refused to get back on. Took an airplane home?
Great work Kevin with the 47, I am eternally jealous.
Gen
Baypoint
I am located in Valdez, AK
I am in the process of doing some upgrades to my 3870 and sure would like to get some of the weight off the stern.
Every one says just to live with it.
I guess we will see.
Our ONAN is getting old and is very under used. It is also heavy and noisy.
The weight is a big problem as the stern of our boat is low already.
It is rated at 8.5 KW which is way more than needed on our 38ft Bayliner.
I would like to replace it with something smaller but still diesel...
