I had a friend who was a merchant marine officer on convoy ships in WWII. He had no love for the US Navy escort destroyers because they had orders to steam on after torpedo attaches to save the convoy. Leaving a disabled ship had to be done but the merchant marines did not like it. He claimed...
You might try monofilament fishing line in their glide path. They can’t see it and when they touch it they fly away. I think an eagle decoy if you can find one would work better than an owl. We see eagle chasing ospreys and stealing there catches in mid air all the time.
Angus this looks like mold. We occasionally had it in our hanging lockers, sounds and looks the same, wipes off, white powder. ours would happen during off use months in the winter.
When you remove it use a damp clothe as the powder from it is mold spores, we tried using Mold Control liquid but...
Mr FatBear I think the sentence “ Neither of us is young and spry” and your wife’s broken arm accident may limit your choice of boats. We cruised a Krogen Manatee 36 for a number of years, they have a large transom gate and port and starboard entrance accesses. The side accesses require a step...
I don’t think so. If your running rope from the winch drum out the end roller on the boom to a snatch block and back to a shackle on the end of the boom you will lessen the strain on the winch motor. But you will still be lifting the same dingy weight with regards to the crane boom capacity...
I think each fire extinguisher manufacturer offer an alternative bracket that is painted steel with a stainless steel body retainer band. The cost of these brackets approximates the cost of the extinguisher equipped with the approved plastic bracket.
I’m no expert but I would remove the injectors, put some motor oil in each cylinder enough to cover the piston head so the cylinder walls get coated. Then turn the engine flywheel by hand to loosen up the rings. I would change the oil and filters before starting it. Clean fuel, bleed the...

I think it’s referred to as a controllable pitch prop. I seem to recall all props are variable pitch as seen in the blade twist.
The US Navy equipped gas turbine drive destroyers with controllable pitch propellers because the gas turbines only rotate in one direction and for better performance...

I agree, very reliable engines on two boats we owned over a 31 years of operation. Routine maintenance, filters from Napa, impellers, etc on line. As with anything mechanical maintenance and prudent operation makes a difference.
We had an opportunity to see both the Majestic/Legacy River Yachts and the Monticello Lake Yachts and think either one would fit nicely as our last boat. I like the nautical bow, keel, anchor and windlass setup and there 1/4” thick aluminum hull plating. Looking for 50’ to 65’, diesel or...
