    Hull leakage (and smell)

Good point. When I had the holding tank out I should have done this. I did spray with a regular hose but I did not think I could access it to actually scrub. I since realize there is an access hatch that would permit this. Maybe the tank needs to come out again. Still the smell, as bad as it is...

    Hull leakage (and smell)

I think it must be that something like this is going on. Do you know if any of these builders used a wood core material in the the hull itself (as opposed to the keel)? Also, if it is that water has gotten into that wood keel is the solution just to find and seal the ingress and egress points...

    Hull leakage (and smell)

Hi folks. A year later, repaired holding tank and still trying to resolve a nasty accumulation of (very) stinky water in the forward portion of my bilge. Mine is a 35 ft 1983 Northern TriCabin trawler. Which I love, despite this tricky problem. I have ruled out leaks from the holding tank above...

    Varnish Maintenance

Okay boaters...one more quick question about the Gloss finish. It looks great on the rail and cap rail. Would it be too much on the cabin doors? Should I leave that a more satin finish or is the Gloss just as great there?

    Varnish Maintenance

Is a coat of paint guard plus better at protecting the cetol Gloss than another coat of cetol Gloss would be? I was so please with how my maintenance coat turned out I am thinking of adding another just for greater durability. Also, in the spots where I had to go right back to bare wood and...

    Varnish Maintenance

Cetol Marine Gloss Can I drop in on this thread for another finishing-related question. I am planning a maintenance coat of Cetol Marine Gloss tomorrow morning. I have done the prep work and want to get this done before I have to clean all over again. Saturday forecast is great - cloudy but...

    Hi and help

The difference between the low and the high of the bow dip was probably 1.5 to 2 inches. In the 10 days it has been home and since unpacking it has remained high and proud...even though the bilge has refilled a bit.

    Hi and help

Okay. It has been a week or two and I have tried some things. You all were so supportive so here is a quick update. After we returned from our trip we unloaded. Removing stuff, especially the heavy cooler from the front helped a bit with the nose buoyancy. After I refilled the aft water tanks...

    Hi and help

Yes - I can't deny that. Would be nice to have a dry bilge!

    Hi and help

The holding tank is FRP. I don't think it is leaking, but no suspect is off the hook yet!

    Hi and help

Yes, I think you are onto something. We arrived back at home port and I took some off two heavy coolers that had migrated to the foredeck. It helped a bit (that and having emptied the bilge and holding tank). But I still don't have the whole bootstripe out of the water as it was. I checked the...

    Hi and help

    Good thought. Will do. Thanks.

    Hi and help

I just emptied the holding tank (at sea) and asked my daughter to go top speed to see if that would shake more out of the holding tank. What it did is trigger the bilge which pumped some pretty stinky grey water. I think I have a forward part of my bilge which is lower than the bilge pump...

    Hi and help

Maybe this is it. We will reach home port today and unload. We have been out with 5 people for two weeks. A lot of stuff has been moved around. Maybe all will return to normal....though there is not really that much stuff forward...
