    Californian 42 LRC under contract

In that case, you will find the thread below of great help in doing the upgrade: http://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/s24/window-replacement-16012.html

    Californian 42 LRC under contract

Should be a fun boat. If you won't have covered moorage and if it still has the original 9' long wood frame aft cabin windows, set some money aside to replace them with aluminum frame windows. Keeping them watertight is nearly impossible. Otherwise it is an excellent boat.[emoji106]

Boom mast and arm on a 38 lrc

No rating plate, but I lifted my 11' Livingston dinghy and several mopeds aboard with it many times. I was more concerned about the nylon blocks and ropes than the mast. The owners manual should be in one of the two sticky files at the top of this, the Californian, group category. You can print...

    Remove post in aft cabin?

With no one left to ask, I've always assumed it was since it connects the center of the cabin top to the floor structure. Deck Sagging has always been a problem in these boats as they age. Main salon floor will be the first place you notice it and then the flybridge floor will begin to fell...

Californian owners manual and technical drawings

Based on your picture, the valving appears to be setup for a standard 4 tank Californian LRC aft cabin boat. If you have a center queen, then you won't have four tanks as someone else already mentioned. Normally, if you have two full sized beds, one each, port and starboard, you should have...

    34 Californian Floor Jack Supports

That looks pretty good Al. I've got to do mine too. Port side, salon floor is drooping a bit. Think I'll start out with your design concept and adapt it to my setup. Hope you didn't patent it.

    Shaft Length and Bearing Size?

Maybe just shop around for the availability of shaft material to make sure they have enough in stock to cut the shafts for you. The length is pretty critical, so you want it right for your boat. I have 1 3/8" shafts and this was the bearing size on the box that the new bearing came in 1 3/8"...

    the 38' and the 42' ?

Good question, but I think it was the 38'. The 42's, in the 70's at least, had a seam 4' ahead of the transom that ran from side to side. Which looks like they used a two piece hull mold to make a 38' mold into a 42' or maybe they did that so they could use one mold for both lengths, who...

    window replacement

Isn't that a fun project. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed ripping out the old wooden frames and scraping the conglomeration of numerous layers of sealants. Which included at least one misguided application of 5200. But on the bright side, once it's done, 40 years of misery are behind you...

    Cummins Diesels

I would think that the 6BT Cummins would be a good step up from the 6-354T's which were mostly rated at 185 hp in the 42's. I forget, but seems like the 3208 wasn't offered until a little later. Plus being a V8 took up a lot of the engine room width. A few more HP would serve that hull well...

    Cummins Diesels

If you're talking about the Trawler version of the Californian LRC's, only ones I've seen with Cummings were after market conversions. Standard was 4 or 6 cycl. Perkins and Cat 3208's later. Almost all of the 34' to 42' were twins. I've seen one early factory 42' with a single Perkins 6-354T...

    Boat Heating Advice

I agree. Go with a diesel furnace. I lived on my trawler through one winter. It is equipped with three Thermadore electric wall heaters front, rear and center as you described. When the outside temp dropped below 32f you couldn't keep the boat warmer than 65f inside. And when it got down in...

Onan MDJE 6K Issue: Cranking not Firing

I'll fourth or fifth those who said to not let those "mechanics" back on your boat. Throwing the jenny away, because they can't figure out how to start/repair it is ludicrous. I also have the 7.5k MDJE and they're comparatively simple to work on. Sounds like the problem is in the starting...

    SHARP MICROWAVE OVEN r-1810a

Must be a pretty old unit. Sharp doesn't list it any longer in their service dept bulletin. That's an inexpensive brand, measure it up and go to Lowes, HomeDepot or Walmart and replace it. The smaller oven are around $130 and will last for years.

    38' Californian

Congrats on your purchase, they're a fine boat. Unfortunately, the interior wood is just a thin mahogany veneer. You can try a light spot sanding, and a little stain, but I haven't had much luck with that. Ends up looking worse than before. If the leak got into the plywood below the veneer...
