    The Case for Going Slow

40 years ago, when I started annually traveling to & from South Florida , it was most always in a fast sport-fisherman with a good friend and sometimes an occasional 14-18 kt motor yacht. We made good time every day but while the trips were most enjoyable, they were also slightly stressful on...

Shout out to the new USCG eStorefront!

I knew our USCG vessel documentation was coming up for renewal but I never really gave it to much thought because the renewal notice never came in the mail. Last week, I checked the date and saw it was due to expire this month. I told my wife, Liz, since she's better at handling the paperwork...

    Autohelm 6000 conversion

To control the autopilot in place of the st6000 control? No, not possible. The corepack can be interfaced to the 3010 via nmea 0183 to share nmea data but you'll need another 6000, 6001 or 6002 control head to operate the pilot.

    Albin 40 trawler

We brought the boat back from SC to our home dock in VA last week and as expected, it performed flawlessly with no problems whatsoever and we had a wonderful trip! We are interested in a couple of boats but as I've always maintained, I refuse to be a 2-boat owner. It amazes me that this one...

    Spring 2024 Old Mainship Projects

I always kind of wished I had the time to take a 1st gen 34 Mainship and completely gut the thing and start from scratch with nothing. There was so much wasted space on ours that always drove me crazy. The flybridge with huge deck covering the cockpit & the head with stall shower in a 34' boat...

    Greetings from Waymaker

We'll be headed back to our home on the Chesapeake in 2 weeks (unless the boat sells first) and it's possible we'll come back via the Dismal Swamp route, depending on our schedule and the weather. Keep a lookout for another Albin 40 in Elizabeth City April 17-19!

    starboard door for solo boater

I use the heck out of the starboard side door that's next to the helm, especially when I'm by myself. With a left-hand wheel, the boat pulls to the starboard when backing down and I tie up starboard-side to at our home dock. Many times I'll reach in through the door to operate the throttle and...

    Autonomous marine travel

Bingo! Until AI starts thinking about what "could" happen instead of what "will" happen in any given scenario, I don't see how its feasible for everyday travel. AI has to "see" an issue to make an adjustment. It doesn't foresee issues. Is it going to call a tugboat or dredge operation on 13 and...

    Albin 40 trawler

It's amazing to me, that with no other advertising anywhere else, I still get 1 or 2 messages weekly regarding this "for sale" thread! What a great targeted-marketing resource this forum has been! To everyone interested, by all means, still feel free to contact me any time but yes, the boat is...

Need to update my boat stereo.

I used to be a Fusion fan until, on our last boat, I "upgraded" the salon RA60 stereo to a RA-670. That's where I found out from Garmin support that I could only control the volume and other functions of the new unit through a Fusion app. I don't want to have to open an app to simply and quickly...

Need to update my boat stereo.

I would recommend going with whichever unit has the latest version (5.0) of bluetooth. 5.0 has a much faster data xfer and much better range. I will say that while the range is better, the bluetooth signal doesn't seem to travel through walls as readily as the earlier version but that's not a...

    OceanYachts

    * Thread drift Alert!*It was my understanding that the "Flexible Flyer" (the 40-something Super Sport...the 44?) was an ok build but thats when the higher output diesels were starting to come on the market and the boats were just too fast for their own good and self-destructed in heavy seas...

Slow Hand – End of the line

Whoever ends up with Slow Hand will no doubt have as near a perfect boat as can be purchased. A minimum of a bachelors in engineering would probably help the new buyer to start cruising her ...I can't imagine the hours you've put into upgrades and systems improvements! Best wishes with your...

What exactly is the Rum Runner package?

I thought the Rum Runners were the ones with colored hulls but I'm probably mistaken.

    Depth Sounder Question(s)

Id guess that the Cybernet operates on a frequency of 200kHz so another low-powered depth indicator would work with your existing 'ducer but then you would have to locate a plug that would work with your new unit and splice it in to the existing cable. If the system works, it would be money well...
