While wiping down my boat this morning I discovered a white residue when wringing out my rag. Is the paint coming off?

I`ve seen that. Strange stuff, like very thin no fat milk? I put it down to salt spray in solution, with some air fallout, but it could be old wax polish coming off, or a combination. Either way the paint does not seem to be disappearing, two pack paints are a very hard surface,as discovered when getting old paint off the windlass cover to repaint. BruceK

Could also be oxidized gelcoat unless you have a wood boat or your fiberglass boat has been painted. If its oxidized gelcoat you need to get wax on it if you want to stop the gelcoat loss.

Most boat paint will surface oxidize , it gives a cleaner looking surface .

Esp with white.

Probably oxidized gelcoat or paint.,if it has been painted.

Is your boat painted?

It's hard to give a good answer without knowing that.
