I'm assembling the brass fittings for my fuel filter system. Which of the multitude of Loctite thread sealants is most appropriate to use? 242 looks about right, but I'm sure many folks here have been down this road already.

I've always used Permatex #2, the kind that never*hardens. You don't want something that turns hard, because the vibration will crack it over time.
 
The "best" locktite is used in refrigeration.
