I was fortunate to be able to take a short cruise on the USS Theodore Roosevelt, CVN-71 this weekend.* She looks enormous when standing at the dock.* She seemed a bit smaller after 15 hours aboard.* I imagine that she seems tiny to the crew as they returned from a 7.5 month tour and then had to host us civilians for the weekend.*

Check out those giant eye-splices!* Nicely done.

Leaving Norfolk.

One of our escorts.

Keeping an eye out for pirates!* Maybe not.* But it looks like SOP for our ships to be setting a small arms detail when leaving or entering port.

I could not capture the sense of speed in this pic.* Check out the barrels to the CWIS in the upper right.

3 of the Moran sisters getting us back to our berth.

The F/A-18 Superhornet traps and cat shots are all jerky, grainy video, so I'll spare you that.

You lucky duck.* My nephew is stationed on it.* He took his parents and was supposed to try to get me a ride.* He couldn't swing it.* I'm glad you got to go and check out our tax dollars.* It amazes me to see these ships with all those young kids running them.*

In a left break from 300ft she looks even smaller!
