Has anyone had any experience with different size Cutless bearings on the same shaft? We pulled ours this past Sunday to discover the aft bearing has had any additional stainless bushing added and the forward bearing is typical.

No??
Are you saying they used a smaller bearing than the size of the hole in the strut, so they shimmed it to make it fit? If so, that doesn't sound very good.

Cutless Bearing Outcome

So here's the result of our situation. The forward Cutless bearing strut was measured to a 2 5/8" ID and the aft bearing strut to a 2 3/4"ID resulting in the stainless bearing sleeve required to take up the slack. The machine shop also noted the Starboard shaft was measured to a Metric size and the Port shaft was Standard size. Both wheels have Metric Shaft tapers on them. As best as we can figure the one shaft had been re-worked previously and the other appears original. Further discussions with the machinists and engine fitter is the gear has been working like this for quite some time and should continue to function accordingly. However if and when we ever require NEW shafts we will be purchasing Standard sized shafts.

Onto another project.....never seem to run out of projects owning a boat!
