Stop psh button

I have a 275 hp Ford Lehman .. today when I went up stop the engine the push button when pushers fid not stop the engine . I had to go down to the engine s push the lever to have it stopped .. any thoughts or what I should look for or do ? Thank you

Solenoid. Cheap as dirt and many available online. AFTER you have checked the connections.

My F.L is older, 120 hp, so the injector pump is no doubt different, but..

My solenoid suddenly stopped working one time. It turned out to be a grounding wire which was an easy fix once I found it.

However.. My shut off is achieved by pulling the rail forward, not pushing it back. In fact for the two or three days I used the boat without an electrical shut down I had to lift the hatch and pull the rail forward by hand. This became a pain so I ran a cable to the rail up through the sole to a convenient location where I could give it a tug to shut the engine down.

Turns out I liked the idea of having a positive mechanical shut down so I have left the cable in place and labeled. Not sure it would work in case of an engine "runaway" but in theory it should. BTW, I store a coffee can-like contraption near the air intake in case I ever have to "choke it off.

Test the switch. One of ours broke and was constantly activating the stop solenoid so the engine would not start. Unhooked the switch and it started right up. Your switch could be broken the exact opposite. Always check the simple things first.

First put a meter on the solenoid terminals and push the button (with everything powered up of course) this simple step will immediately cut your investigation in half. If you get power when you push the button but nothing moves, it’s the solenoid. If no power, then the switch or wiring in between. If you get to the switch, check first to make sure there is power on one side of the switch. With the button pressed, there should be power on both sides of the switch. If power on both sides when the switch is pressed then the wiring. If not, then the switch.

I’m looking for an inexpensive source for FL engine stop solenoids. Any suggestions?

We had the same problem on port FL135 when we bought our boat - turned out to be the 12 pin connectors for the whole engine gauge panel. Cut out all four of those plugs - all four had loose fittings. Replaced with buss bars - no stopping problems, and now all gauges work perfectly alos.
