Hendo's Randall 35 Cray Boat complete rebuild, Perth, Western Australia

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
My brother is working on a steel hull sailboat and he is much on Matt's schedule. I tell him every year that that where he started will rust away before he ever finishes. It's a work of art, as is the Solstice. Some men are blessed with patients others not so much. I'm young so I don't plan on taking a dirt nap before either project is finished, carry on Brother Matt....Carry on...

I cant think of one person who plans a dirt nap except for those who purposely end their lives.
Me, I intend to stay a while longer to irritate those around me. Sort of comes natural to me.

Carry on, extension granted

Rounded out the week with finishing off the aft cockpit polishing, the nonskid then beginning of masking up the starboard side window to shoot black next week.

Ahhhh... The "Sticky Tape" man!

It must have been awfully satisfying pulling the tape up from around those non-skid patches. I'm getting a bit of a chubby just thinking about it.

This afternoon I masked up and Jotun epoxy black sprayed around the starboard side window. Next will be the front windscreen struts then the Portside surround then the painting is finished (bar a couple of touch ups when I nicked the paint fitting the bowrail.

You must have used a lot of plastic sheeting. LOL

When your painting is all done (hurry up), you will tackle the interior??

By next boating season you should be all done and ready for the splash, when the ice goes out.

Name of plastic wrap factory?? - I wanna buy stock!!

Nice little job this arvo. I taped up and gunned out the port side window frames. Tomorrow I’ll try and get the front windscreen struts done and that’s the black finished.

Hey Matt - Details baby... details!

I don't recall, you probably mentioned, what is the material and its thickness you are using for windshield?

Cheers!

Art

All plastic off, gave her a little bath then began detail polishing and adding the window rubber inserts to cover the screw heads.

This from someone who has built boats most of his life including a couple for myself, take it or leave it.

80% finish is relatively easy and looks amazing to near 100% of the people

That last 20% takes a ridiculous amount of effort to achieve and was something never strived for even when I worked 4 years building superyachts in the 80's

Dont fall for the perfection trap.
You'll be there forever chasing it, it can cost your health, sanity and relationship and it will most likely add no value.

Yea, he will polish it so much, he will polish through the paint and then, start repainting. LOL

Hendo she looks great! I tbought you would have finished by now mate. You must be going for perfection? Used to be like that.:thumb:

There you go...now let's get on with the splash down.:hide:

It all looks very very good. Congratulations.

This afternoon i added some window rubbers and did some more detail polishing to bring it up to a level that I am happy with.
