Hey Dude, did you find your friend there on GTC who was originally letting you keep your boat at his dock?
And any word on how high the storm surge got on GTC?
Don’t know exact storm surge, but don’t think it was all that high. Boatyard guys said water didn’t even get into their office. It was just a huge wind event.
I did not find Chris Plummer (owner of the dock) this trip and I’m kind of embarrassed I didn’t. The trip was a whirlwind for me and I didn’t have much time. Flew in Thursday afternoon, hitched a ride to the boatyard, saw the overall destruction and kind of freaked out. Slept on a very hot and stinky Bijou then got up early Saturday and started getting boat ready to launch, and left Sunday. I can’t say enough about this Abaco Yacht Services boatyard. There were literally boats toppled everywhere and they made an extreme effort to move so many boats out of the way to get to mine and get me launched. That was a big piece of luck for me because if I didn’t get launched Friday I would miss my window to get home weather-wise.
Those poor yard guys were worn out. The yard manager said he was going on vacation this week and might not come back. Anyway, great place, and LaVern in the office is so calm and nice with all the boaters calling her freaking out.
