Air draft of GH 47

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Hello Pirate Dan,
The air draft of the GH47 varies by boat. Some have fly bridges, some have different davits mounted high to store the dinghy above the cockpit and some have a collection of antennas and railings.
Since there are only nine GH47s built, it is puzzling. I own GH47 - hull 1 named Seven Tenths (that is for sale). We had a 30" railing on the roof that we cut down to bring our air draft to 16.6", to allow us to cruise Lake Champlain and through downtown Chicago.
Which boat are you looking at - I might can give you an answer for that boat.

Curtis Stokes has one listed on his brokerage site. It's reported to be 16' 6". I know that boat did the loop.

That's the one!! I'll stand down now.....

Thanks. I thought the air draft had to be under 16' to do the Erie Canal.

The east end of the Erie canal and the Oswego canal is clear to 21 feet. I did that route this summer with an air draft just a hair under 16' (antennas up) and nothing was even close to touching. The western half of the Erie canal is only good to 15' 6".

Clearance calculated to the inch:

My GH37 has the same basic (molded) structure as the GH47 except for another 10' stuck in the middle. I have no flybridge or added roof features. My davit arm is supposed to lift off (not light). With that gone, I should clear 15' 1".

Gh 47

I was on one that had a railing but no fly bridge, the tallest point was the anchor light, 24’ air draft, antennas down, lowering mast gained another 5 feet.

Pirate Dan,
A GH47 could get down to 15'1" with the TV antenna and railing removed. The davit will then be the highest point.

I owned one with no flybridge, taking off that railing would be a PITA, also the stairway to the top deck and in my case the tv tracvision antenna and still be over 16 feet, my boat only drew 3.5 feet depending on fuel

Timb7734,
Which hull did you own?
I took the railing off mine when I had it cut down to clear the bridges. I put it back on at the height of the KVH TracVision antenna.
We met you at Drummond Island when we were on the Loop in 2016.

Hull 59 maybe, what I recall anyway
