That would definitely have me wishing for a fast windlass and then putting the throttles to the stops and hoping the water was calm enough to make a WOT escape run for a few minutes

Probably hot as far as it extended since pyroclastic flows can start out at up to 1000 degrees Celsius
I watched a documentary where a married couple of volcanologists were killed by a pyroclastic flow. They must have known they were goners for sure because the carbon leftovers of them were found seated side by side, facing the volcano.
