I use my TWIC card at airport security, I think they recognize it here in Fort Lauderdale but not other airports. I have to show them on the back of the card that it is from TSA and use it simply because I paid $132 for it.

I am on a Canadian owned platform today in the Gulf of Mex. They don't require a TWIC, but if you don't have one, you must be escorted by someone that does. That means they have to be with you when you work. So as long as you are in a work crew where you will always be working with someone else that has a TWIC, then you can work.

I assume it is what we have in Aus and called a MSIC card.
Maritime Security Identification Card.
You can't get on a vessel, wharf etc with out one or if the same as you have mentioned, you have to be accompianied by a card carrying crew member.
It appears the same in Aus, coat about $150.00 , you have to have a valid reason to apply for one and they take ages to issue.

FLL was one of the last ones to accept it without comment. I had some great fun using it there for the first couple of years, they had to call a supervisor every time.
What is really amazing and very much to the point of how absurd the whole thing is, Port Everglades will not even look at a TWIC, they only accept a driver's license.

This is in U.S. territory in the Gulf of Mexico, so they have to follow U.S. laws.
Keep in mind guys that just because you are entering a port does not mean that you are in a 'secure' area of it so the TWIC requirement does not always apply. Example: I can get into an Airport/*Heliport without a TWIC card, I just cant get onto a helicopter flying to a secure area.
