I have enjoyed seeing photos posted by others from various parts of the globe, and so I have gotten off my arse to (try) and post some photos of mine to share!
These photos are from about 3 weeks ago in Brisbane, Australia, at about the height of the so called ‘winter’ here. Temps during the day are early 20’s Celsius.
We travelled from our marina (RQYS) to Blakesleys, which is on the western side of Stradbroke island on Moreton Bay. Bit over an hour and a half at 14 knots. Moreton Bay is protected from open swell. Most of the western side of that island is mud and mangrove, but in this spot the sand mining operation in the middle of the island in about the 1980’s had a sand dam fail and all the sand ran down into the Bay. So there is a lovely sandy beach here...
There are lots of sand bars around so you need to stick to the channels. The ‘entrance’ to Blakesleys is marked but it is shallow. My GB46 daws 1.35m, and at mid tide I have 1.8m under the keel. It’s a little shallower than I like. Once you are past the entrance however you are over a long trench which is about 6m deep, and a lovely sandy beach. There is no swell, but some tide/current. There is a sandbar to the east, so no fetch to really speak of even if it gets windy. The photos are at high tide, at low tide there is a large sandy beach. the water is clean.
On this day my teenage sons had friends and so they (all 6 of them) all camped on the beach at night and had a fire. One of the photos is our dogs looking at the boys on the beach - they wanted to be with them, not my wife and I!!
The last two pics are of the ER on my boat. I found that I had to post those...
