What are the channel depths and bridge clearances like at Elk Rapids, Michigan, and the Crystal Beach Road bridge at the south end of Torch Lake? Is it possible to motor from Grand Traverse Bay through Elk Rapids, down Elk Lake to Lake Skegemog, then across to the Torch River and up into Torch Lake, or is that dingy only water?

Not possible...without a trailer. Keep in mind those lakes were partially man made with the building of the dam in Elk Rapids. There are no locks. The Torch River is fairly deep and something like a 30' Sea Ray can go from Elk Lake to Torch Lake. It is a narrow river and the water is clear but you will find looking at old tree stumps on the bottom somewhat scary. I used to spend summers on Elk Lake.

Ah-hah. Didn't see that there is a dam. That would be a problem! Thanks Donsan.
