All the photos look Great! Fourth from the bottom close up is to Die For!!

One nice thing about the non-skid, it will keep the callus off your feet.

Non skid looks great! Definitely not going to be barefoot on sunny days.

Ted

Reading this thread motivates me to do more on my boat. Thanks Matt.

Well that looks downright professional. I really like that color.

Yeah I know. I thought about a light coloured deck but I chose looks over practicality for this. I’ve heard Light decks are cooler but figured they’d be grubbier too. I’ll have a deck wash up front so if it’s too hot I can give it a squirt I guess. The top of the fwd cabin will be done the same way however it will also have 2 x 80mm cushions covering the whole top acting as a day bed and 3 x 50mm cushion inserts to cover the hatches to make the whole area a bed.

Thanks mate. I like it too. Felicity actually picked it. I chose the hull and asked her to choose the brow. I was a bit worried at first as it wasn’t a colour I’d have chosen but I let it go and I’m happy with it. Will look great against the back and white.

After a bit of a late start I did the taping up and painting of the non-skid down the Starboard side as well as the bow deck area.

Cracked on with the nonskid. Did half of the forward deck then taped up the remainder of the Starboard side gunwale topsides going across the stern and onto the Port side.

If you put a piece of contrasting plexiglas behind them and illuminate them, you could use them for the side-boards. Build a small box behind them with a couple of LED lights to illuminate between the cut-outs. I would have thought the cut-out parts of the letters would be more valuable than the sheet they were cut from, since you could piece them back together, weld on some stems and have a 3D nameboard with the letters standing proud of the backboard.

I just had a thought about this boat. It will never be splashed! It will, however, wind up in Australia's Maritime Museum as an example of what Australian craftsmen are capable of. Absolutely a work of art! :thumb::thumb::thumb:

Very interesting input, and, something I can agree with. However... my $$$ is still on Matt's "Art Work" SPLASH!!

Just make sure it does stick out far enough to catch a hose behind it.

The name plates were given to me as a present mate. I don’t have any cutouts.

Haha you had me worried for the first sentence. I thought you were about to tee off on me for a minute then mate.

Thanks for the message of support mate.

Time for a stubby

Great photos, Matt!

Without thinking, I used the word "arvo" in a sentence spoken aloud yesterday:

"Honey, I'm finishing up the foam work now and this arvo I will dive and see what's hanging up the thruster."

Best Hubby In The World replied, "I just picked up the parts for the dinghy step, wait...what did you just say?"

Then I had to explain about this Strayan guy whose hard yakka makes us look like a coupla shark biscuits.

Cheers,

Yo, Matt me mate!! - SOLSTICE Simply Looks Greater and Greater!

After enjoying our boat for near 12 years we may sell her next summer. I recently spoke with Anna [harbor master at a nice, secluded marina near us in SF Bay] about getting a slip from which to sell our then spruced up our Tolly. Currently we keep her 100 miles away in SF Delta's warm fresh water - where we will spend 5 days starting this Thursday morn! We used to keep two boats at Anna's; she and I go back in friendship to mid 1980's.

Reason I even mention this is because of the fantastic boat-work I've so much enjoyed diligently watching you perform for many years. One portion of which is the beautiful finishing touched you apply to every portion of SOLSTICE. Before placing our boat in the slip I'll have her dry-docked at near by yard for improvements... mostly cosmetic, some mechanical with thorough bottom-job/through-hull fastener replacements too.

Watching your deck beauty as it unfolds/evolves makes me realize that one improvement item on our Tolly [included with many others] will be a new deck top-coat on her 42 yr. old self. I can only hope to come within a country mile of realizing anything near the beauty and quality of your work.

WOW - Is simply the most descriptive single word for your build-out quality and ongoing expanding expertise.

Cheers - Bro!

Hendo/Matt

I have literally signed up to this forum to say congratulations to you and let you know you have inspired me to undertake a much smaller project than your amazing build!

Im am very jealous of your beast, your hard work, determination and attention to detail and your wife's understanding and support!

Well done!
