Looking for advise on how to cut a fibrous as opposed to foam type engine room insulation.
Have tried a carton cutter but as insulation is 50mm thick it looks like a beaver has had a go at it. Put it in the saw bench not to bad but tends to pluck the stuff out in chunks.

Does it compress? If so maybe take a board and compress it and try cutting it with a sharp utility knife.

Try an electric carving knife.

I use a utility knife, a large size of the typical blade that can be snapped off to expose a new sharp edge. This knife has a blade width of 1 inch and a new blade extends about 5 inches. Handle of the one shown is about 2 x 8 inches. Cuts fiberglass insulation and sound proofing panels.

Have you tried a Sawzall?

Not sure what type of blade, though.

An old style electric carving knife may do it well. Usually with thick insulation I compress it with a board and then cut along the board's edge with a very sharp utility knife.
