congratulations

Congratulations Captain, its not an easy accomplishment. Got mine a year ago and love to use it with TSA agents when boarding a plane.

Good job Captain. Well done.

Gulf Comanche, what does showing that to TSA get for you?

Congratulations!! So what is it? 100 ton NC, 500ton inland, 200 ton oceans?

50 ton inland for now. (Up to 12 miles out in the Gulf) Will be upgrading to 100 NC in a couple of years.

Good job, I lost mine a number of years ago (stroke) after having it for forty, kinda wish I had it again. Congratulations you have every right to be proud.

Congrats. It’s a big deal. The hardest test I ever took. A few years ago I went into a federal building in DC requiring ID and was allowed to bypass metal detector with the TWIC card. It is a confirmation of the knowledge you have attained through the years.

TWIC card is different than MMC .

While not required for the MMC they are generally issued together. The TWIC allows access to ports under the authority of Homeland Security. I have found it easier to use for ID than the MMC.

Don

I understand. I have had a TWIC card since they have been issued. I also have a MMC (9th issue or so, 1600 Ton Oceans). My point was he showed the MMC as an ID source.

Congratulations, and let me be the first to say:

Aaaaarhrrr Capt’n!!!!!

"Captain" is easier than saying "Assistant Regional Inspector General for Audit, retired." And much more relevant. :thumb:

TWIC enables unescorted access to Port and other security sensitive infrastructure (refineries, for example). No TWIC, no access without escort. Other additional requirements probably apply, but that's the baseline. Oversimplified, of course.

Some airport security let's you use the aircrew/employee security screen line with a TWIC. Others not. No consistency that I've seen.

Forgot: Congrats, Capn!

Very nice accomplishment! Good work, Captain!

Well done Captain.

Great work, congrats. Don’t forget to call your boat insurance folks...you will likely qualify for some additional discount.

Thanks, Irene. Already notified them. ?

Why do recreational boaters get the endorsement for? Excuse my ignorance.

I guess it demonstrates to oneself mastery of the knowledge required to obtain the license. I will admit that going from point A to point B and arriving relatively undamaged and afloat is also a demonstration of knowledge. I will confess that left unused much of that knowledge does become increasingly difficult to recall such as light scheme of a working dredge with pipes in the middle of an inlet you are entering at 12:02AM. I am on my 3rd issue and agree the last 15 years of my life would have been unchanged without it.

And hoping the dredge has the correct lighting scheme displayed. But not to detract from Capt John's neat accomplishment.

If you are not getting your ticket for a paying job, the main benefit is that it exempts you from all the state licensing requirements.
