Any recommendations on a yard on the Massachusetts north shore? We need work done on our drivetrain, bottom painting, and buff and wax. We’re in Boston but would like to bring it up the coast a couple hours. Also, anybody have an idea for what a reasonable charge is for drivetrain tuning (need cutlass bearing replacement, shaft alignment, rudder packing, potentially prop balancing)? 42 ft twin engine. We were thinking it would be about 2 full days of work for the drivetrain for a mechanic, and about $3-$4k for the other stuff. Is this way off?

Give Rose Marine a call in Gloucester. All the Boston Harbor tour boats go there, along with most of the fishing fleet. There have a very capable machine shop and cut shafts, etc. No fluff, just the real stuff.

If you end up there, give me a shout. I live across the harbor from there.

Recommend Winter Island Yacht Yard in Salem!
