3208T Transmission sensors

Can anyone tell me where I find the Transmission oil sensor for a 3208T engine on our boat. Gauge flicks to end stop even when just turning key on so assuming its the sensor. Gear oil is full and clean. My engine manual doesn't cover the transmission. We are currently out on anchor. Robin:

Transmissions are not packaged with motors like on an automobile.
You need to stick your head in the hatch and read the tag on the gear.
The pressure switch should be pretty obvious, it’s probably the only thing hanging on the tranny that has wires hanging on it.
Many are teed off an oil cooler line.

Thanks Kapnd, I have located the switch which as you say (sticks out like dogs balls) however I thought it was the engine oil pressure switch, which I have now located on top front end of engine and I hope was the faulty VDO sensor not transmission. Have ordered replacement sender hoping that is all the problem is. I spend more time in my engine room than I do top side always checking for leaks etc. but still I am not a mechanic just a retired broke live a board boater. Thanks again for responding. Robin

A diagnosis tip for a 12v system. The sender in the transmission (and all senders) varies from no pressure to high pressure. Different systems work differently however the extreme is disconnected or grounded.

You could turn on the electrics and disconnect the sender. The gauge should state zero. If the gauge has a reading it isn't the sender.
If the gauge always reads zero, disconnect the wire to the sender and ground it. If nothing happens, again it isn't the sender.

Oil Senders

Hi mate, this sender VDO gauge on dash just went to full lock not zero as soon as key is turned on so just assumed the sender was the problem. Will do as you suggest and see what happens. Thanks Robin

Full lock would be the same as removing the wire and grounding (earth) to the case.

If you grounded that wire to the case (earth) and the gauge did go to full lock the gauge and all of the wiring to the sender is GOOD!
