TF Gathering in SE Florida 2019

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Sure wish I could make it this year but the stars haven't aligned in my favor so I'll have to hold out until next year.

I'll miss the gathering but will toast you from afar.

Cheers from Sunny California!
That's unfortunate. What will I do with all those IPAs?

Wifey B: Come on guys. With all the excellent restaurants there, some great seafood, branch out a little. Barbecue is good but you can do so much better there. :)

And who left you in charge of opinion? :)

I have eaten in most every place within walking and short drive radius of the marina...and I disagree. Some are good, most mediocre for the price. The BBQ joint is perfect for what it is and most rpeople I know agree.

The best seafood I eat is NEVER in a restaurant and what is served is rarely worth what they charge....would rather have a good Reuben in a dive bar.

And as Ted said, come show us how its done.:thumb:

The best food in Fort Pierce is what Watfa serves on their boat.:thumb:

Watfa does a good job, just look at me.

Al and Steve (Jack) won’t be there. Will they be in a 1970s room somewhere celebrating? Too bad that a quality member won’t be able to attend (yeah, done on purpose- you decide to who the reference is directed out of the three). LMAO

Got to agree with Scott, we can stumble over the the barbecue joint which is pretty good and gets better with the drinking. Lots of good eating in the town.

Everybody show up Watfa needs to keep busy and off my case. . Looking forward to a good time as always.

Wifey B: I did...

Good leaders always know when they really aren't in charge..... :socool:

So dont worry about the gathering, there are plenty of good idea sources to listen to.:Thanx:

Wendy and I will be there. That is still not guaranteed as I do not have my schedule for next month yet...but it should not be an issue.

Wifey B: As long as it's not the sources that like the food at Coinjock.

Interesting but part of the draw is the wealth of info from some of the great minds on TF, sitting around with an adult beverage and asking questions without the stigma of being printed on the forum is a huge plus.

Baker is coming so add a few more bottles of Flor de Cana.

WifeyB it’s been many years since Coinjock but areyou say there is no amount of booze to make that steak edible?

Al, I've been waiting to hear from you. It's really a bummer that you will not be there. Maybe you can send Meg.:D We all wish you the best, buddy.

Jack sent a message awhile back that he will be at sea. It won't be the same without you two guys.

I was holding off until after the holidays to know for sure. I'll be back at "The Fort" in 2020 if you guys don't get us all banned from the marina.

What? Al and Steve won’t be there? We’ll at least the IPAs and PBRs are safe.

That's unfortunate. What will I do with all those IPAs?

Ted

I sure hope there will be others to do some of the heavy lifting. Jack and I can't be expected to do ALL the hard work! :D

TBH, really wish I was coming. Hope you're all still able to have fun without the Taj Mahal Gang. (I still cringe when I think of that AirBnB! )

Al, you know you guys loved it and all the stories it generated. If we knew the address we could have sent a few escorts.

Anyone can go back and reread comments about Coinjock...more than a few of us said it was at best quantity over quality.

And my guess is the people who love Coinjock food have the same opinion about other h opinions..... kinda like whats going on here....

After all, most of us have eaten really well and really bad, and are smart enough to make up our own minds.

WifeyB it’s been many years since Coinjock but areyou say there is no amount of booze to make that steak edible?

Wifey B: As I don't often consume booze and when I do it's generally Champagne, I did just check the Coinjock menu and no Champagne on it. :D

We don't find booze as important as some of you do.

Wifey B: Now, seriously, I love watching you guys plan and participate in this event and think it's great you all enjoy it so. I enjoy just following along. And occasionally teasing you. :)

And telling us we can do better.....:nonono:

Enjoying booze, boats whatever.....its not that we hold it important ....its just one little part of life, but in a social or food situation is definitely part of it.

Most of use have complete control over it to do what we have in life.

It is not an evil that society today can't figure out.

Well said, Scott. It doesn't help to judge or cast aspersions especially by someone who has never attended. Come join in the fun and you'll find that we're actually nice folks who enjoy social settings with or without food or drink.

Sure, we joke about a lot but the facts fall far from the lore.

Except that part about Irv...

This is a great thread. I think I will need to be there to make my own decisions. I missed last year but made the year before. I'm so close that I will drive over. Don't know if Jackie can make it as she insists on being at every grandchilds' birthday. We'll see.

Howard

Howard your so close, you need to be there. RT also.

WifeyB I can tell you from past experience that booze makes a crap steak better, a slow car faster, an ugly woman prettier, Ted’s engineroom more sterile, Scott’s boat nicer and I don’t drink. The best part is I enjoy watching my friends get drunk.

The best part Irv, is there are no sloppy, ignorant, or beligerant drinkers in the group. Whether drinking a lot or a little.

Disproving the theory of too many that maintain drinking is a root of many evils at least some of the time.

And certainly.... the experience and knowledge level of more than several attendees is such they need little advice how to live life.

I need advice on how to live my life, Watfa gives me that advice every day and I still screw up. Maybe you guys can provide more advice.

Wifey B: No one is criticizing your life choices. Just not my thing as many of you wouldn't enjoy what I do. We all make our own life choices. I have no desire to be somewhere that drinking is a huge part of the activity, whether it's well managed or not. We don't like cocktail parties even for the arts or charities. Many of you might not like being around us with crazy young girls running wild and skimpy bikinis and nudity. These are all lifestyle choices. Just like slow boats vs. fast boats. Now my only comment on drinking was responding to the question of it making Coinjock steaks tolerable. Now, some people like Coinjock steaks.

Now, as to the theory that you think too many of us hold that "drinking is a root of many evils." Well, if that's an accusation, I'll accept it. That's not saying that everyone who drinks is evil. Drinking is a root of many evils. Hubby and I both grew up with alcoholic fathers so we know what it can lead to. I know binge drinking is a real issue with young people and so much domestic violence is a result of excessive alcohol consumption. We drink occasionally and that doesn't make us evil or any drinker evil. However, I fully understand the damage caused by alcohol addiction just as I do all other drug addictions.

Now, psneeld, you chose to attack my one simple throwaway comment on drinking in response to Bigsfish. I also stated this:

Wifey B: Now, seriously, I love watching you guys plan and participate in this event and think it's great you all enjoy it so. I enjoy just following along. And occasionally teasing you.

Somehow I got suckered into some form of disagreement over simply pointing out that there are many fine restaurants at Fort Pierce, ones other than the Barbecue place. While I'm not coming to the gathering, I've eaten a lot of meals in the restaurants in Fort Pierce and I've seen a lot of the sights in the area. I've been there many times and it's one of my favorite stops along the east coast of FL.

I hope you all have a great time there. I think most TF'ers would really enjoy the gathering. I intend to be in the Caribbean at the time. :D

WifeyB. We appreciate the fact that you will have fun where your going, I’m sure we will have fun too.

“Many of you might not like being around us with crazy young girls running wild and skimpy bikinis and nudity”. Yeah that would be terrible.

You might want to try Prosecco. First tried it in Venice, Italy where the restaurant owner/manger provided some for free. (We were repeat customers.) :)

You got suckered into nothing.

You might have think you made a simple little comment, well, thats your "opinion"..... that it was simple.....and it wasnt just one here or other threads on this annual get together.

You had problems with your alcoholic father....I did not have problems with my heavy drinking father....but I have had problems with people making "simple little comments"... so who we choose to hang out with and feel to call out or "attack" as you put it must be normal and acceptable for both of us.

At the risk of beating a thoroughly dead horse, let me explain why your restaurant idea is a non starter. The gathering could probably be described as a family reunion picnic. We get together, talk and mingle for an hour or two on someone's boat, then usually walk together to a casual dinner where we again can mingle and move around while eating dinner. The meal isn't the focus, the talking and mingling is the focus. Sitting in a a restaurant for a couple of hours would total destroy the great interaction we have that first night. The bar-b-que place we visit has a couple of picnic tables we gather at. Dinner is less than 45 minutes, and then we walk and talk back to the marina. 2+ hours in a stuffy noisy restaurant would totally destroy the friendly interaction of the first night.

Wifey B: Come on guys. With all the excellent restaurants there, some great seafood, branch out a little. Barbecue is good but you can do so much better there. :)

Since this "bash" was started, I really wanted to go! Even my wife suggested that I attend (which caused me to ponder my decision.:ermm:) So this year I thought I might actually pull the trigger and go until I heard the Al was not going. What's up with that? It appears that going "stag" isn't really what this thing is all about & there has been very little info on where to stay! Soooo, I guess I'll have to experience it vicariously through TF again.

You're mistaken about singles not welcome. I've attended every year by myself. Always feel welcome with everyone. While many of us stay on our boats, land accommodations run the full spectrum from AirBnB to all levels of hotels within a modest driving distance. A quick check of Google maps shows 20+ hotels within 5 miles of the marina. From the Roadway Inn to the Marriott, there seems to be something for most every comfort level and price range.

This year I think I will be there single....and have been another in the past.

If my crew moves off into her house by then, and it looks good, you can bunk aboard my boat.

If you dont mind the Motel 6 quality compared to the other show pieces that participate...:D

Besides, all the women hang out with Don anyway, just look at most of the past years pictures.

True! Captain Don (Juan) Moon! The women be starstruck on the Moonstruck...

I feel like we are being admonished for our social practices...
